From their inception, the battleships took part in all the wars fought by the US until the end of the 20th century. It was aboard the USS Missouri (BB-63) on 2 September 1945 that the Act of Surrender of the Empire of Japan was signed, officially ending the Second World War. The battleships served intermittently in the reserve fleet and on the front line until 2006. Today, each of these ships is open to the public for tours as a museum and living legend!
