Mainboards

Mainboards

Mainboards for desktop PCs, servers and small-board projects, plus replacement laptop and OEM boards, for builders, upgraders and repairers. Our range includes AM5, AM4, Intel LGA1851 and LGA1700 motherboards from brands such as Gigabyte, ASRock, ASUS and MSI, with Lenovo boards making up the largest group. There are over 7500 models in total.

How to choose a mainboard

Socket and processor. The socket must match your CPU exactly. AM5 and AM4 are for AMD Ryzen processors, while LGA1851 and LGA1700 are for Intel Core chips. Check the manufacturer's CPU support list too, as some processors need a newer BIOS version.

Chipset and form factor. The chipset decides how many USB ports, storage slots and overclocking options you get. Size matters just as much: ATX boards offer the most slots, micro-ATX is a middle ground, and Mini-ITX fits small cases but has one expansion slot. Make sure the board fits your case.

Memory type. AM5 and LGA1851 boards are built around DDR5, and AM4 boards use DDR4. Intel LGA1700 boards come in both DDR4 and DDR5 versions, but a single board accepts only one type, so read the listing carefully before buying RAM.

Storage and connectivity. Count the M.2 slots for NVMe drives, check the SATA ports if you reuse older disks, and look at the PCIe version for graphics cards. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth save buying an extra card, but not every board has them.

Exact part number for replacements. Laptop and OEM boards are not interchangeable between models. Match the full part number or FRU number printed on your old board, and not only the laptop name. Server and workstation boards also need a check on CPU type, ECC memory support and the form factor of the chassis.

Mainboard brands we carry

  • Lenovo: supplies by far the largest group in our range, mostly spare and OEM boards for ThinkPad, IdeaPad and other Lenovo machines.
  • Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI and ASRock: the main names for retail desktop boards, each offering entry-level to enthusiast models for AMD and Intel sockets.
  • Supermicro: known for server and workstation boards used in rack servers and storage systems.
  • Raspberry Pi and Arduino: the best-known names for single-board computers and microcontroller boards used in learning, prototyping and embedded projects.
  • Biostar: a manufacturer of desktop boards, often at the simpler end of the market.

Also in our range: ALLNET, Joy-IT and Renkforce.

Shoppers will find laptop and OEM motherboards in the largest subcategory, followed by AM5, single-board computers, LGA1851, LGA1700, AM4 and server boards. There are also a few expansion cards and controllers, and a handful of older Intel boards for LGA1200 and earlier.

Mainboard FAQ

What is the difference between AM5 and AM4 motherboards?

AM5 is the newer AMD socket and uses DDR5 memory, while AM4 uses DDR4. The two sockets are not compatible, so a Ryzen processor for one will not fit the other. AM4 suits an upgrade of an existing system, and AM5 suits a new build.

Can I use DDR4 memory on an LGA1700 motherboard?

Only if that particular board is a DDR4 version. Intel LGA1700 processors support both memory types, but each mainboard has slots for just one, and DDR4 and DDR5 modules cannot be swapped. The listing will state which type the board uses.

Which mainboard size do I need?

Choose the size your case supports. ATX is the standard full-size format, micro-ATX is smaller with fewer slots, and Mini-ITX is the smallest. Smaller cases can often take only the smaller boards, while a large case usually accepts all three.

How do I find the right replacement laptop motherboard?

Use the part number printed on the old board, or the exact model number of the laptop, and compare it with the listing. Boards from the same laptop family can differ in graphics chip or processor, so a similar name is not enough. If the board is not accessible, the label on the underside of the laptop is a good starting point.
