Desk frames

Desk frames are the metal bases that carry a tabletop, and the frames in our range come from ONKRON. They suit home office users, gamers and small businesses who want to build a desk around a tabletop they already own or have chosen separately. The range is small, so choosing mostly comes down to matching a frame to your tabletop and your height.

How to choose a desk frame

Fixed or height-adjustable. A fixed frame holds one height and has no moving parts. An electric sit-stand frame lets you switch between sitting and standing, which is worth having if you spend most of the day at a computer.

Motors and load capacity. Dual-motor frames generally lift heavier loads and move more evenly than single-motor ones. Add up the weight of the tabletop, monitors, PC and accessories, then leave a safety margin rather than working right up to the stated limit.

Height range. Compare the minimum and maximum height with your own measurements: elbows at a right angle when seated, and again when standing. Taller users need a higher maximum, while shorter users should check that the lowest setting is low enough for a comfortable sitting position.

Width and tabletop fit. Many frames adjust in width, so check that the range covers the length of your tabletop and that the mounting points suit its depth. Heavy tops such as solid wood or stone need a frame with a higher load rating and a sturdy base.

Stability and controls. Look at the feet and crossbars, because a wide base keeps the desk steady at full height but can get in the way of your knees or a drawer unit. Memory presets and anti-collision protection are useful extras on electric models, and a clear route for cables keeps the underside tidy.

Desk frame brands we carry

  • ONKRON: a brand best known for monitor arms, TV brackets and stands, so its desk frames sit naturally in a workspace built around ergonomic mounting accessories.

Both frames in our range come from ONKRON, so there is no second brand to compare within this category at the moment.

Desk frame FAQ

What is a desk frame?

A desk frame is the legs and supporting structure of a desk, sold without the tabletop. You add a tabletop of your choice, which lets you pick the size, material and finish yourself. Some frames are fixed, while others raise and lower electrically.

Do I need to buy the tabletop separately?

In most cases, yes. Desk frames are normally sold as the base only, so the tabletop is a separate purchase. Check the product page to confirm exactly what is included before ordering.

Is a dual-motor desk frame better than a single-motor one?

A dual-motor frame is usually the better choice for heavy tabletops or several monitors. Two motors share the load, which generally means steadier lifting and a higher weight limit. A single-motor frame can be enough for a light tabletop and a simple setup.

How much weight should a standing desk frame support?

It should support the combined weight of your tabletop and everything on it, with a comfortable margin. Weigh the tabletop, monitors, computer and any accessories, then compare the total with the frame's stated load capacity. A frame working well below its limit tends to run more smoothly and wear less.
