Gimbals and stabilisers are handheld motorised supports that keep smartphones, action cameras and compact cameras steady while you film. They suit vloggers, travellers and anyone who wants smoother walking shots. Our range of over 50 models includes AOCHUAN, DJI, HOHEM and Insta360.
How to choose a gimbal or stabiliser
Device type and payload. Decide first what you will mount: a smartphone, an action camera or a larger camera. Then compare the maximum payload with the real weight of your device, including any case, lens or cage. A phone gimbal will not carry a mirrorless camera, and a camera gimbal is usually bulkier than a phone needs.
Number of axes. Most handheld gimbals for phones and cameras are three-axis, correcting tilt, roll and pan. This gives clearly smoother footage when walking or turning than basic electronic stabilisation alone. Pan-follow and lock modes let you choose how the camera reacts to your movement.
Battery life and portability. Check the stated runtime and whether the arm folds down to fit in a bag. Folding models are easier to carry on trips. Some gimbals can also charge your phone through USB, which is handy on long shoots.
Tracking and shooting features. Subject tracking, quick switching between portrait and landscape, and time-lapse modes are common on phone gimbals and are usually controlled through a companion app. They matter most if you film alone and cannot keep the camera pointed at yourself by hand.
Mounting and compatibility. Check the width of the phone clamp against your phone with its case on. Look for a standard tripod thread if you want to use a tripod or add accessories. For action cameras, confirm that the gimbal supports your exact model.

Gimbal and stabiliser FAQ
What is the difference between a gimbal and a stabiliser?
A gimbal uses motors and sensors to actively counter movement on several axes. The term stabiliser is broader and can also cover simpler or purely mechanical supports. In everyday shopping, handheld motorised gimbals are what most people mean by either word.
Do I need a gimbal if my phone has built-in stabilisation?
A gimbal is still worthwhile if you want smoother footage while walking, running or panning. Built-in stabilisation reduces small shakes, but it cannot fully remove the bounce of footsteps. A gimbal also adds tracking and creative shooting modes that phones do not provide on their own.
Is a three-axis gimbal worth it?
Yes, for most video work a three-axis gimbal is the better choice. It corrects tilt, roll and pan, so the picture stays level and steady as you move. Fewer axes can work for simple shots, but walking footage is usually less smooth.
Can one gimbal be used with both a phone and an action camera?
Some can, but not all. It depends on the mounting system and the payload limit. Check that the gimbal lists your specific phone size or action camera model, and whether an adapter is needed.
