Power tool batteries

Power tool batteries

Power tool batteries in this category are rechargeable packs for cordless drills, drivers, saws, grinders and battery-powered cleaning equipment. They suit tradespeople and home DIYers who need a spare pack or a replacement for a tired one. Our range of over 70 models includes Makita, Bosch, DeWalt and Kärcher, alongside 2-POWER.

How to choose a power tool battery

Platform and voltage. A battery must match the system your tool was built for, and the voltage printed on the tool or old battery is the first thing to check. Many brands run several voltage classes, such as 18 V for general tools and higher voltages for heavy equipment, and these are not interchangeable.

Brand compatibility. Batteries are normally tied to one manufacturer's fitting. A Makita pack will not slot into a Bosch tool, so buy within the brand you already own, or choose a pack that is explicitly listed as compatible with your tool model.

Capacity in amp-hours. Capacity (Ah) tells you how long a charge lasts. A larger figure gives longer runtime on demanding jobs such as sawing or grinding, but the pack is usually heavier, which you will notice when working overhead. Smaller packs suit light drilling and driving.

Battery chemistry. Most current packs use lithium-ion cells, which hold their charge during storage and avoid the memory effect of older nickel-based packs. If your tool is an older model, check which chemistry it was designed for before ordering.

Charger and spares. Check whether you need only the battery or a charger as well. A second pack lets you keep working while the first charges, which matters most on longer jobs.

Power tool battery brands we carry

  • Makita: known for its 18 V LXT lithium-ion system, one battery type that fits a very large number of Makita tools.
  • Bosch: sells batteries across its blue professional line and its green DIY line, and the two are built for different workloads.
  • DeWalt: known for its 18 V XR packs and for the higher-voltage FlexVolt system aimed at heavy-duty tools.
  • Kärcher: a cleaning specialist whose battery platform powers its cordless cleaning devices, so these packs are meant for that equipment rather than for general workshop tools.
  • Metabo: a German manufacturer with a strong name in angle grinders and other professional cordless tools, with batteries to match.

Also in our range: 2-POWER, Dedra and CoreParts.

Power tool batteries: frequently asked questions

Can I use a Makita battery in a Bosch or DeWalt tool?

No, not directly. Each manufacturer uses its own connector and electronics, so batteries only fit tools from the same system. Adapters exist, but check the details carefully, and the safest route is a pack made for your tool.

What does Ah mean on a power tool battery?

Ah stands for amp-hours and describes how much charge the pack stores. At the same voltage, a higher Ah figure means longer runtime between charges. It also usually means more cells and more weight.

How do I find the right battery for my tool?

Start with the model number and voltage printed on your tool or its current battery. Match both to the product listing. If the listing names your tool model or battery series, it will fit. If you are unsure, compare the part number on your old pack.

Is a higher capacity battery always better?

No. Higher capacity gives longer runtime, but the pack is heavier and often larger. For light, short tasks a smaller battery is more comfortable to hold. For long cutting or grinding sessions, the larger pack is worth the extra weight.
