Lightning cables

Lightning cables

Lightning cables connect iPhones, iPads, AirPods cases and other Apple accessories to a charger or computer for charging and data transfer. Our range has over 300 models, mostly Lightning to USB-C and Lightning to USB-A leads, from brands such as Belkin, Hama, Wentronic, Delock and Apple.

How to choose a Lightning cable

Connector on the other end. A Lightning to USB-C cable suits modern chargers and laptops, and it is the one you need for fast charging. Lightning to USB-A works with older plug adapters, car chargers and computers with rectangular USB ports.

MFi certification. Cables that are Made for iPhone (MFi) certified carry an Apple-approved chip, so iOS is far less likely to show an "accessory not supported" warning. Check for the certification in the product description, especially on cheaper cables.

Length. A 1 m cable is enough for a desk or a power bank. A 2 m or 3 m cable reaches from a wall socket to a bed or sofa without straining the connector. Very short cables are handy in a car or bag.

Build quality. Lightning cables usually fail where the cable meets the plug. Look for reinforced strain relief and a braided or thicker outer sleeve if the cable is bent often or carried around daily.

Charging and data speed. Fast charging needs a USB-C to Lightning cable, a compatible iPhone and a USB Power Delivery charger. Data transfer over Lightning is limited to USB 2.0 speeds on most devices, so a more expensive cable will not copy photos any faster.

Lightning cable brands we carry

  • Apple: created the Lightning connector and runs the MFi programme, so its own cables are the reference for compatibility.
  • Belkin: well known for MFi-certified charging accessories for iPhone and iPad, including cables with reinforced connectors.
  • Hama and Wentronic: German accessory suppliers with a large choice of everyday charging and sync cables for the home, office and car. Wentronic also sells under the Goobay name.
  • Delock and DIGITUS: both focus on computer connectivity, which makes them useful when you also need adapters or matching USB cables.
  • LINDY: a connectivity specialist whose cables are often chosen for office and professional installations.
  • Baseus: concentrates on charging accessories and is associated with fast-charging cables and chargers.
  • Renkforce: the house brand of the electronics retailer Conrad, covering a range of practical cables and adapters.
  • dBramante1928: a Danish brand known for design-led mobile accessories.

Also in our range: Vention and Gembird.

Lightning cables: frequently asked questions

Which devices need a Lightning cable?

Lightning cables are used by iPhones up to the iPhone 14 series and the iPhone SE (3rd generation), by older iPads and iPod models, and by AirPods charging cases and some Apple keyboards and mice. Newer iPhones, starting with the iPhone 15, use USB-C instead. Check the port on your device before ordering.

Do I need an MFi-certified Lightning cable?

An MFi-certified cable is the safer choice, because it has been tested against Apple's specification and is less likely to be rejected by iOS after an update. Uncertified cables may charge slowly or stop working. If the product page does not mention MFi, treat compatibility as unconfirmed.

Can a Lightning cable charge my iPhone quickly?

Yes, if it is a USB-C to Lightning cable used with a compatible iPhone and a USB Power Delivery charger. A Lightning to USB-A cable works with standard chargers but charges more slowly. The charger matters as much as the cable.

What length of Lightning cable should I buy?

For most people 1 m is the practical length for a desk, car or power bank, while 2 m suits charging from a distant wall socket. Longer cables are convenient but bulkier to carry. Choose the shortest length that comfortably reaches your usual charging spot.
