Workstation graphics cards

Workstation graphics cards

Workstation graphics cards are professional GPUs for CAD, 3D rendering, video production, simulation and AI work. They suit engineers, designers, studios and IT teams running certified software. Our range of over 150 models includes NVIDIA RTX professional cards, PNY boards, AMD Radeon Pro models and cards supplied under the HP, Dell and Lenovo names.

How to choose a workstation graphics card

Software and certification. Check which applications you run and whether the vendor lists certified graphics cards for them. Certified drivers matter most in CAD, engineering and medical or scientific software, where stability is worth more than the last few frames per second.

Video memory. Large assemblies, high-resolution textures, simulation data sets and AI models all have to fit into VRAM. When memory runs out, performance drops sharply or the job fails. Look at the largest file you work with today and leave headroom for projects over the next few years.

Workload type. Rendering and AI training benefit from many GPU cores and fast memory. Everyday 2D and light 3D work needs far less, so a lower-tier card is often enough. Matching the card to the heaviest regular task avoids both overspending and bottlenecks.

Power, size and cooling. Professional cards range from low-profile, slot-powered models to dual-slot boards that need extra power connectors. Check your power supply rating, the connectors it offers, the free slots and the case airflow. In a branded workstation, confirm that the card is supported by that model.

Display outputs. Multi-monitor setups are common in design and control rooms. Count the DisplayPort or HDMI outputs you need and make sure the card can drive all your screens at their native resolution.

Workstation graphics cards: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a workstation and a gaming graphics card?

A workstation card is built and supported for professional software, while a gaming card is tuned for games. Workstation models typically come with certified drivers, larger memory options and features such as ECC memory on some models. Gaming cards can run many professional programmes, but they do not carry the same certification.

How much VRAM do I need for a workstation card?

It depends on the size of your projects. Light CAD and 2D work needs far less than 3D rendering, simulation or AI work, where large scenes and models must fit entirely in video memory. Check the biggest project you handle and choose a card with spare capacity beyond it.

Can I use a workstation graphics card for gaming?

Yes, most workstation cards can run games, but they are not designed for it. They usually cost more than a gaming card with similar raw speed, and their drivers focus on stability in professional applications. For mixed use, check reviews for the specific model.

Will a workstation card fit in my computer?

It will fit if your case has enough free slots and length, and your power supply has the required connectors. Many professional cards occupy two slots, and some need an extra power cable. Check the card's dimensions and power requirements against your system, especially in branded workstations with proprietary parts.
