Device compatibility. Start with the make and model of the device, then check the output voltage, current and connector on its original charger label. Voltage must match what the device expects, and a laptop charger made for a specific brand is usually the simplest match.
Wattage. The adapter must supply at least as many watts as the original. A higher rating is normally safe because the device only draws what it needs, while a lower rating can cause slow charging, overheating or the laptop running on battery under load.
