How to choose a power supply
Wattage. Add up the demand of the processor and graphics card, then leave headroom so the unit does not run near its limit. The graphics card maker's recommended power supply rating is a sensible starting point, and a larger unit also gives room for later upgrades.
Form factor and connectors. Most desktop PCs use ATX, while small cases often need SFX, so check your case before ordering. Count the PCIe power cables your graphics card needs and the SATA connectors for drives. Modular cabling keeps a build tidier because you only fit the cables you use.
Efficiency rating. The 80 PLUS label (Bronze, Gold, Platinum and so on) shows how much of the power drawn from the wall reaches your components. Higher ratings waste less energy as heat, which matters most in PCs and servers that run for long hours.
Output voltage and mounting. Industrial and DIN rail units are sold by output voltage, commonly 12 V or 24 V, and by current in amps. Match the voltage to your equipment and check the unit clips onto a standard rail. For chargers and adapters, the connector type and polarity must match the device as well.
Protections. Look for overvoltage, overcurrent and short-circuit protection, which limit the damage if something fails. In a PC this guards expensive components, and in a control cabinet it helps keep a fault from spreading.

How many watts do I need for my PC?
It depends mainly on the graphics card and processor. Many mid-range gaming PCs with one graphics card run well on a 550 W to 750 W unit. Check the card maker's recommended power supply rating and choose a unit slightly above it.
What does 80 PLUS mean on a power supply?
80 PLUS is an efficiency certification showing that a power supply converts at least 80 percent of the power it draws into usable output at tested loads. The levels Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Titanium reflect progressively higher efficiency. A higher level usually means less wasted heat and lower running costs.
What is a DIN rail power supply used for?
A DIN rail power supply converts mains voltage to a stable low voltage, usually 12 V or 24 V, inside a control cabinet. It clips onto a standard rail next to relays, controllers and sensors. Electricians and automation engineers use it to feed that equipment.
Can I use any ATX power supply in my PC case?
