Mini PCs and NUC

Mini PCs and NUC

Mini PCs and NUC-style computers are small desktop systems that fit on a desk, behind a monitor or inside a cabinet. They suit offices, home workstations, digital signage and thin-client setups. Our range of over 200 models includes business mini PCs and compact barebone systems from Lenovo, GMKtec, Dell, Minisforum and Shuttle.

How to choose a mini PC

Processor. Intel Celeron is enough for web browsing, documents and video calls. Intel Core i3 and i5 suit everyday office work with many open applications. Intel Core Ultra 5 and 7 and AMD Ryzen 5 are better for multitasking, light photo editing and heavier workloads. All of these appear in our range.

Memory and storage. Check the maximum memory a model supports, not just what is installed. In our range many models accept up to 64 GB, while some stop at 16 GB or 32 GB. For storage, 512 GB is the most common size among the models with listed capacity, with 256 GB and 1 TB also available. Some barebone models come without memory or storage, so confirm what is included.

Ports and displays. Most mini PCs in our range have one Ethernet port and one HDMI output, which is fine for a single screen. If you plan to run two monitors, look for models with two HDMI outputs or a USB-C or DisplayPort output. Count the USB ports too, as small cases often offer only a few, and some models have no USB 2.0 ports at all.

Operating system. Most mini PCs listed with an operating system come with Windows 11 Pro, which suits business use and domain management. Some are sold without an operating system, which makes sense if you already own a licence or want to install Linux. Thin-client models may run ThinPro or IGEL OS, which are designed for remote desktop environments rather than general computing.

Mini PC and NUC questions

What is the difference between a mini PC and a NUC?

NUC (Next Unit of Computing) was originally Intel's name for its small-form-factor computers. Today the term is used loosely for any very small desktop PC, and most manufacturers simply call their products mini PCs. Both are complete desktop computers in a compact case.

Can a mini PC replace a normal desktop computer?

For most office work, browsing, video calls and media playback, yes. Models with Intel Core i5, Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen processors handle everyday multitasking comfortably. Demanding tasks such as high-end gaming or 3D rendering are better suited to a full-size tower with a dedicated graphics card.

How much RAM does a mini PC need?

For general office use, 8 GB is a workable minimum and 16 GB gives more room for many browser tabs and applications. Choose a model that supports more memory than you need today, as many mini PCs in our range accept up to 64 GB. Check whether the memory is upgradeable before buying.

Can I use a mini PC with two monitors?

Yes, if the model has two video outputs, such as two HDMI ports or one HDMI plus DisplayPort or USB-C video. Most mini PCs in our range have a single HDMI port, so check the specification first. A USB-C dock can also add extra display outputs on models that support it.
