Laptop power adapters replace or supplement the charger supplied with a notebook, which suits anyone who has lost or damaged the original, or wants a second one for the office or for travel. Our range covers mains chargers from I-TEC, Getac and AVACOM, including options for business and rugged laptops.
How to choose a laptop power adapter
Wattage. Check the wattage printed on your original charger, commonly 45 W, 65 W, 90 W or higher. A replacement can match or exceed it, but a weaker one may charge very slowly or not at all while the laptop is under load.
Voltage and connector. The output voltage must match the original, and the plug must fit the socket physically. Many laptops use a round barrel plug with a specific tip size, while newer thin models charge over USB-C with Power Delivery.
Compatibility with your model. Look up the full model or part number on the laptop's underside label or on the old adapter. Business and rugged laptops often use dedicated chargers, so a generic one may not fit even if the wattage looks right.
Original or universal. A dedicated adapter suits one laptop or one product family and needs no setup. A universal charger comes with several tips and a voltage setting, which helps if you look after a mixed fleet of laptops, but it takes more care to set up correctly.
Cable length and weight. For a desk, a long cable and a larger brick are fine. If you carry the charger daily, a lighter unit with a tidy cable saves space in the bag.

Laptop power adapter FAQ
Can I use a higher wattage adapter with my laptop?
Yes, as long as the voltage and connector match the original. The laptop draws only the power it needs, so a higher wattage rating does no harm. A lower wattage adapter is the one to avoid, because it can struggle to charge the battery during heavy use.
How do I find the right charger for my laptop?
Start with the label on your old adapter, which lists output voltage, current and wattage. Then note the exact laptop model from the sticker underneath it. Matching these details, plus the plug type, gives the most reliable result.
Are universal laptop chargers safe?
A good universal charger is safe when it carries proper safety markings and protection against overheating, overvoltage and short circuits. The main risk is user error, so set the correct voltage and fit the right tip before connecting the laptop.
Can a USB-C charger replace a standard laptop adapter?
Only if the laptop supports charging over USB-C with Power Delivery. The charger must also supply at least the wattage the laptop needs. Laptops with a round barrel socket cannot be charged this way without a suitable dedicated adapter.
