USB-C laptop chargers

USB-C laptop chargers

USB-C laptop chargers are mains power adapters that charge a laptop through its USB-C port. They suit anyone replacing a lost or worn charger, or adding a second one for the office or travel. Our range covers original and compatible adapters from Lenovo, Dell, HP, ASUS and CoreParts, in outputs from 45 W to 140 W.

How to choose a USB-C laptop charger

Wattage. Match the wattage printed on your original adapter, or go higher. Our range includes 45 W, 65 W, 90 W, 100 W, 130 W and 140 W, and 65 W is the value listed most often. A laptop only draws what it needs, so a higher-rated charger is fine, but a lower-rated one may charge slowly or fail to keep up under heavy load.

Charging standard. Laptops charge over USB-C using USB Power Delivery, although some manufacturers add their own requirements. Thin office laptops usually run happily on 45 W or 65 W, while larger workstation and gaming models often need 130 W or more. Check the laptop's manual or the label on its original charger.

Original or compatible. An original adapter from Lenovo, Dell, HP or ASUS is made for that manufacturer's laptops. A compatible charger, such as those from CoreParts, can be a practical alternative when the original is hard to find. Make sure the listing names your laptop series or the wattage and voltage profile you need.

Intended use. Most chargers in our range are indoor mains adapters sold for laptops. Some are described as universal and also suit tablets and phones, and a few are car chargers. If you travel often, a universal model can replace several separate adapters.

Cable. Check whether the cable is attached or detachable. Above 60 W, a USB-C cable needs to be rated for higher current, so a detachable cable must be suitable for the charger's wattage.

USB-C laptop charger FAQ

What wattage USB-C charger do I need for my laptop?

Use the wattage printed on your laptop's original charger, or a higher one. Many thin laptops use 45 W or 65 W, while larger models may need 90 W, 130 W or 140 W. If you cannot find the label, check the laptop's specifications on the manufacturer's website.

Can I use a USB-C charger from a different brand?

Yes, in most cases a USB-C charger from another brand will charge your laptop, provided it supplies enough power and supports USB Power Delivery. Some laptops are stricter and may charge slowly or show a warning with a mismatched adapter. A charger with the same wattage as the original is the safest choice.

Will a higher-wattage charger damage my laptop?

No, a higher-wattage USB-C charger will not damage a laptop that needs less power. The laptop and charger negotiate the voltage and current, so the laptop draws only what it requires. The reverse is the problem: a charger with too low an output may charge very slowly.

Can a USB-C laptop charger charge my phone or tablet?

Yes, most USB-C laptop chargers can charge phones and tablets with a suitable USB-C cable, because the device takes only the power it needs. Chargers listed as universal are designed with this in mind. The charging speed depends on what your phone supports.
