Laptop power adapters

Laptop power adapters

Laptop power adapters in our range are replacement chargers for most laptop makes, from slim 45 W units to 150 W+ adapters for workstations and gaming laptops. There are over 6,000 products, including brand-specific adapters from Dell, Lenovo, HP and ASUS, compatible alternatives, USB-C chargers and universal models. They suit anyone replacing a lost, damaged or worn-out charger.

How to choose a laptop power adapter

Wattage. Check the rating on your current charger or on the label under the laptop. Our adapters are grouped as up to 50 W, 60-85 W, 90-135 W and 150 W+. A higher-wattage adapter with the same voltage and connector is normally fine, because the laptop only draws what it needs. A lower-wattage one may charge slowly or struggle under heavy load.

Voltage and connector. The output voltage must match what your laptop expects, and the plug must fit physically. Round barrel connectors differ in outer and inner diameter, and some have a centre pin that the laptop uses to identify the charger. Compare the connector size and the voltage with your old adapter rather than relying on the brand alone.

USB-C charging. A USB-C charger only works if the laptop supports charging over USB-C. The charger should offer at least the wattage the laptop asks for, as many thin laptops need 45 W to 65 W and larger models need more. USB-C chargers also tend to be easier to share with a phone or tablet.

Original or compatible. An original adapter matches the connector and the charging signals of your laptop exactly. A compatible adapter usually costs less and suits a spare at the office or in a bag. In both cases, check the part number or the compatibility list for your laptop model.

Universal adapters. A universal adapter comes with interchangeable tips and an adjustable voltage, so it can cover several different laptops. It is useful for mixed device fleets, but the voltage and tip must be set correctly each time you switch laptops.

Laptop power adapter brands we carry

  • Dell: many Dell laptops use a barrel connector with a centre pin, which lets the laptop recognise the adapter, so matching the original type matters.
  • Lenovo: ThinkPad and other Lenovo models have used both slim rectangular tips and round tips, so check which one your laptop has.
  • HP and HP Enterprise: HP business laptops commonly use a blue-tip barrel connector, and the range covers both standard and higher-wattage adapters.
  • ASUS: many ASUS laptops use small barrel connectors, so the plug diameter is worth checking, especially on thin models.
  • Acer: a lot of Acer laptops use a barrel plug in a common size, and the 65 W and 90 W ratings are widely used.
  • Toshiba: adapters here are mainly for owners of existing Toshiba laptops who need a like-for-like replacement.

Also in our range: 2-POWER, CoreParts, Qoltec and Akyga. Subcategories also include external power supplies and network device and DC power supplies for equipment other than laptops.

Laptop power adapter FAQ

How do I know which power adapter fits my laptop?

Match the voltage, the wattage and the connector type of your current adapter. These are printed on the charger label. If you no longer have the charger, look up the laptop model number or the part number on the underside of the laptop.

Can I use a higher-wattage adapter than the original?

Yes, as long as the voltage and the connector match. The laptop draws only the power it needs, so a higher rating is not a problem. A lower-wattage adapter may not keep the battery charged during demanding work.

Can I charge my laptop with a USB-C charger?

Only if the laptop has a USB-C port that supports charging. Check the laptop specification for USB-C power input or Power Delivery. The charger should also provide at least the wattage the laptop requires.

Is a universal laptop adapter a good replacement?

A universal adapter works well when its voltage range, wattage and tip suit your laptop. It is handy for several devices or as a travel spare. For a laptop with a special connector or a high power draw, a model-specific adapter is a safer match.
