Electric kettles

Electric kettles

Electric kettles for boiling water quickly at home or in the office, from basic plastic jugs to stainless steel models in several colours. Our range of over 700 kettles includes brands such as Adler, Maestro, ETA, Bosch and KitchenAid, so it suits anyone replacing a worn-out kettle or equipping a first kitchen.

How to choose an electric kettle

Capacity. Among the kettles with listed capacity in our range, 1.7 L appears most often, followed by 1.5 L, with smaller 1.25 L, 1.6 L, 1 L and 0.5 L models also available. A 1.7 L kettle fills a large teapot or several mugs in one go. For one or two people, a 1 to 1.25 L model heats less water than you need to throw away.

Power. Kettles in our range are listed at anything from 1500 W to 2400 W, and 2200 W and 2400 W are the values that appear most. Higher wattage boils the same amount of water faster, so a full jug takes noticeably less time at 2400 W than at 1500 W. Lower-powered models draw less current and can suit a shared or older circuit.

Material and colour. Stainless steel is easy to wipe clean and stays cool to look at in a modern kitchen, while plastic bodies are lighter to lift when full. Glass kettles let you see the water level and any limescale. Colours in our range include black, stainless steel, white, red, cream and green, which helps if you want the kettle to match your toaster or worktop.

Base and safety features. A 360° rotating base lets you lift and replace the kettle from either side, and nearly every kettle with this detail listed in our range has one. Most models are cordless, meaning the jug lifts off its base. Look for automatic shut-off and boil-dry protection, and a removable limescale filter if your tap water is hard.

Electric kettle brands we carry

  • Russell Hobbs: a British brand closely tied to kettles, known for introducing an automatic switch-off kettle in the 1950s.
  • Bosch: a German manufacturer of kitchen and household appliances, with kettles that follow its familiar clean, simple styling.
  • KitchenAid: best known for stand mixers, and its kettles carry the same retro-inspired design and colour options.
  • Tefal: a French brand originally known for non-stick cookware, now also making a broad line of small kitchen appliances.
  • Severin: a German small appliance maker whose catalogue covers kettles, toasters and coffee machines.
  • Zelmer: a Polish household appliance brand that makes kettles alongside blenders, mixers and vacuum cleaners.

Also in our range: Adler, Maestro, ETA, Esperanza and Eldom.

Electric kettle FAQ

What size electric kettle should I buy?

For a household of three or more, a 1.5 to 1.7 L kettle is the usual choice, and 1.7 L is the most common size in our range. One or two people can manage with a 1 to 1.25 L model, which boils less surplus water. Check the minimum fill mark too, as boiling a single cup in a very large kettle wastes energy.

How many watts should an electric kettle have?

Between 2000 W and 2400 W is typical for a full-size kettle and boils a full jug in a few minutes. Models at 1500 W or 1800 W exist, but they take longer for the same amount of water. Higher wattage means faster boiling, not better quality.

How do I remove limescale from an electric kettle?

Fill the kettle partly with a mix of water and white vinegar or a citric acid solution, bring it to the boil and leave it to stand for about half an hour. Then pour it away, rinse well and boil fresh water once or twice to clear any taste. A removable filter in the spout should be rinsed separately.

What does a cordless electric kettle mean?

A cordless kettle lifts off a separate power base, so there is no cable dangling from the jug when you pour. The base still plugs into the wall socket. Most kettles with this detail listed in our range are cordless, and many also have a 360° rotating base so you can put the kettle back from any angle.
