Food dehydrators in our range are countertop appliances that dry fruit, vegetables, herbs, mushrooms and meat for jerky. They suit home cooks who want to preserve a harvest or make snacks without additives. Models come from CONCEPT, ETA, SENCOR and MPM, among others.
How to choose a food dehydrator
Capacity and trays. Count the trays and their total drying area, not just the outside size of the unit. A household that dries a few apples or herbs each week manages with four or five trays, while anyone preserving a whole garden harvest or making jerky in batches should look for more trays or stackable extras.
Power and temperature control. Higher wattage generally shortens drying time and copes better with a full load. An adjustable thermostat matters more than raw power: herbs need low heat, fruit and vegetables a medium setting, and meat a higher temperature. A model with only one fixed temperature limits what you can dry well.
Airflow and tray layout. Dehydrators with a rear or side fan usually dry all trays more evenly than those with the heater and fan at the bottom, where trays near the base finish first. If you choose a bottom-fan model, plan to swap the trays around during drying.
Timer, noise and cleaning. A timer with automatic switch-off lets you run a batch overnight without checking it. Because drying takes hours, a quieter fan is worth having if the kitchen is part of your living space. Removable trays that are dishwasher safe, or at least smooth enough to wash by hand, save effort with sticky fruit.

Food dehydrator FAQ
How long does it take to dehydrate food?
Most foods take between a few hours and around half a day, depending on the food, slice thickness and temperature. Herbs are often ready in a few hours at low heat, while apple rings, tomatoes and jerky usually need longer. Thinner, evenly cut slices dry faster and more consistently.
Can I make jerky in a food dehydrator?
Yes, a dehydrator is a common way to make jerky, provided it reaches a high enough temperature. Choose a model with an adjustable thermostat and use lean, thinly sliced meat. Follow a trusted recipe for marinating and drying temperatures, because meat needs more care than fruit.
Is a food dehydrator better than an oven?
For regular drying, a dehydrator is usually the better tool because it holds a low, steady temperature and circulates air through every tray. An oven can dry food but often cannot be set low enough, and it uses more energy over many hours. A dehydrator also frees the oven for other cooking.
What can I dry in a food dehydrator?
You can dry fruit, vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, chillies and meat for jerky. Many people also make fruit leather and dried snacks for hiking. Dry each food at a suitable temperature and store it in airtight containers once it has cooled.
