Fryers and air fryers

Fryers and air fryers

Air fryers and deep fryers for home kitchens, from basket-style models for a couple to large family units. The range includes air fryers and traditional oil fryers from Philips, Tefal, Princess, Tristar and Cosori, among others. It suits anyone who wants crisp chips, chicken or vegetables with less oil, or who needs a fryer for larger batches.

How to choose an air fryer or fryer

Type. Air fryers circulate hot air and need little or no oil, so they also work as small ovens for roasting and reheating. Traditional deep fryers heat a bath of oil and suit people who want the classic texture of battered or double-fried food.

Capacity. Many models in our range hold between 6 and 10 litres, with 6.2, 7, 7.2 and 9 litres all well represented. A 6 to 7 litre basket usually feeds a small family. If you cook for four or more, or want to fry a whole chicken, look at 9 litres and above.

Power and temperature. Wattage runs from about 1400 W to 2750 W in our range. Higher power generally means faster heating and better recovery when you add cold food. Maximum temperature is most often 200 °C, but some models reach 230 to 250 °C for stronger browning. Minimum settings from 35 to 80 °C are useful for dehydrating, warming or proving dough.

Controls and programs. Touch panels are the most common control type in our range, and rotary dials are also available for those who prefer simple manual settings. Preset programs vary from 6 to 12, usually covering chips, chicken, fish, vegetables and baking. Presets save time, but check that the manual timer and temperature settings are easy to adjust.

Cleaning and placement. Most fryers here are stand-alone appliances that sit on the worksheet, so check the height under your wall cabinets. Non-stick baskets and dishwasher-safe parts make regular use far less of a chore.

Frequently asked questions about air fryers

Is an air fryer better than a deep fryer?

It depends on what you cook. An air fryer uses much less oil and doubles as a small oven, which suits everyday meals and reheating. A deep fryer gives the traditional texture of battered foods, which air frying does not fully copy.

What size air fryer do I need?

For a household of three or four, a basket of around 6 to 7 litres is usually enough. Larger families or people who batch cook should consider 9 or 10 litres. Our range covers both, so you can match the capacity to the number of people you cook for.

How much oil does an air fryer use?

Most air fryers need only a teaspoon or two of oil, and some foods such as frozen chips need none. Hot air does the cooking instead of an oil bath. Fresh, uncoated food such as raw potatoes browns better with a light brush of oil.

Which temperature and wattage should I look for?

A maximum of 200 °C suits most home cooking, and many models in our range offer this. Choose 230 °C or more if you want stronger browning on meat. For wattage, 1400 to 1800 W is typical for smaller baskets, while larger units often go to 2000 W or beyond.
