Juicers

Juicers

Juicers for making fresh juice at home: centrifugal juicers, slow (masticating) juicers and citrus presses, for first-time buyers and daily juicers alike. Our range includes over 100 models from Philips, Bosch, Gastroback and Braun, among others.

Some are simple presses for oranges and lemons, while others are full-size machines that handle hard vegetables and leafy greens.

How to choose a juicer

Type of juicer. Citrus presses only work on oranges, lemons and grapefruit, but they are quick to use and easy to clean. Centrifugal juicers shred produce on a fast-spinning blade and suit apples, carrots and other firm items. Slow juicers press produce gently with an auger, and many people choose them for leafy greens, wheatgrass and soft fruit.

Power and speed. Motor ratings in our range run from about 85 W up to 900 W. Models around 700 to 900 W are typically fast centrifugal machines, while lower ratings such as 150 W are more common on slow juicers, which turn at a low speed and rely on pressing rather than spinning. Higher wattage does not automatically mean more juice, so check the type first.

Capacity and juice container. Some models come with a juice jug and others do not, so check this before buying. If you make juice for a family, look at the size of the pulp container too, because a small one has to be emptied part-way through a session. For single glasses, a small footprint matters more than a large bowl.

Feed chute size. A wide chute lets you drop in whole apples or large pieces of produce and saves chopping time. A narrow chute is common on slow juicers and means more preparation, but it usually keeps the machine smaller.

Cleaning and parts. Count the parts that touch the produce: the filter, the bowl, the lid and the pusher. Fewer parts and dishwasher-safe components make daily juicing far easier to keep up. A small cleaning brush supplied in the box is useful for fine mesh filters.

Juicer FAQ

What is the difference between a slow juicer and a centrifugal juicer?

A centrifugal juicer shreds produce on a fast-spinning blade and is quicker, while a slow juicer presses it with a rotating auger at low speed. Slow juicers are usually quieter and often handle leafy greens better, but they take longer. Centrifugal models are a sensible choice if speed matters most.

Which juicer is best for oranges and lemons?

A citrus press is the simplest option for oranges, lemons and grapefruit. You halve the fruit and press it onto a reamer, which keeps preparation and cleaning to a minimum. Slow and centrifugal juicers can also manage citrus, but a press is often easier if citrus is all you plan to juice.

Do I need to peel fruit before juicing?

Citrus fruit should be peeled before it goes into a centrifugal or slow juicer, because the peel is bitter. Apples, carrots and cucumbers usually do not need peeling, though they should be washed. Check the manual for your model, and remove stones and large pips from fruit such as peaches and mangoes.

How long does fresh juice keep?

Fresh juice tastes best when drunk soon after it is made, ideally the same day. If you need to store it, keep it in a sealed container in the fridge. Juice from slow juicers tends to separate more slowly, but it still loses flavour and nutrients over time.
