Massagers

Massagers

Massagers in our range cover handheld percussion massage guns, shiatsu neck and back massagers, massage cushions and foot massagers for use at home or after training. Shoppers can choose from brands such as Homedics, Medisana, Therabody and Beurer, with over 150 models to compare.

How to choose a massager

Type of massager. Match the format to the area you want to treat. Massage guns suit large muscle groups such as thighs, calves and back after exercise. Shiatsu massagers with rotating nodes work well on the neck and shoulders. Cushions and seat covers fit on a chair or sofa, and foot massagers deal with tired soles and arches.

Intensity and attachments. A massage gun with several speed settings and interchangeable heads lets you go gently over bony areas and firmer over big muscles. Stroke depth, which is how far the head moves, affects how deep the treatment feels, so a deeper stroke is better for dense muscle. For shiatsu devices, look for adjustable intensity or the option to change the direction of the nodes.

Heat function. Many neck, back and foot massagers have a built-in warming function. Gentle heat relaxes stiff muscles before kneading, which many people find useful for desk-related tension. It is less relevant for a massage gun used after sport.

Cordless or mains powered. Rechargeable massagers can be used anywhere and are easy to pack in a gym bag, but battery life varies, so check the stated run time. Mains-powered cushions and foot massagers do not run flat and usually have stronger motors. Noise is also worth checking if you plan to use the device while watching television.

Comfort and safety. Read the manual for recommended session lengths and the areas you should avoid, such as the front of the throat or the spine itself. People with medical implants, circulation problems, or who are pregnant should ask a doctor before using a massager.

Massager FAQ

What is the difference between a massage gun and a shiatsu massager?

A massage gun delivers fast, repeated strokes into the muscle, while a shiatsu massager uses slower rotating or kneading nodes that press into the tissue. Guns are held in the hand and aimed at specific muscles, often after exercise. Shiatsu devices usually rest against your neck, back or feet and work more steadily.

How long should I use a massager in one session?

Most manufacturers suggest short sessions, often around 10 to 15 minutes for a shiatsu or cushion massager, and a minute or two per muscle with a massage gun. Stop if you feel pain, numbness or tingling. The manual for your model gives the exact recommendation.

Is a massager with heat worth it?

Heat is worth having if you mainly want to relieve stiff, tense muscles in the neck, shoulders, back or feet. Warmth helps muscles relax before the massage starts. If you want a massager mostly for recovery after training, a model without heat, such as a massage gun, is usually enough.

Which massager is best for neck and shoulder tension?

A shiatsu neck and shoulder massager is usually the most comfortable option for tension that builds up during desk work. It rests on your shoulders and kneads without you holding it, and many include a heat function. A small massage gun with a soft head can also work if you prefer to control exactly where it goes.
