Hair straighteners in our range include flat irons and straightening brushes for anyone who wants smooth, sleek hair at home, plus a few styling tools that also curl. Leading brands include Remington, Philips, BaByliss and Rowenta, alongside Dyson and Dreame for those who want newer designs.
How to choose a hair straightener
Type of tool. A flat iron presses hair between two heated plates and gives the sharpest, flattest finish. A straightening brush is easier to handle, works more like a normal brush and is gentler on the arm, but the result is usually softer. Flat irons are the larger group in our range.
Plate material and width. Ceramic plates heat evenly, and tourmaline or titanium coatings are common on higher-spec models. Narrow plates suit short hair, fringes and small curls, while wide plates cover long, thick hair in fewer passes.
Temperature control. Fine or bleached hair needs a lower setting, while thick or coarse hair copes with more heat. Our range has models that reach 230 °C and some that start from around 120 °C. The number of heat levels varies from 2 to 12, and more levels let you adjust in smaller steps.
Heat-up time and cord. Some models are ready in about 3 seconds, while others take 30 seconds or longer. If you style in a rush, that gap matters. Cord lengths in our range run from 1.8 m to 2.8 m, and a longer cord helps if the socket is far from the mirror.
Voltage for travel. Many models accept 110 to 240 V, so they can be used abroad with only a plug adapter. Check the rating before you pack one.

Hair straightener FAQ
What temperature should I set my hair straightener to?
Fine, damaged or bleached hair generally does best at around 150 to 180 °C. Normal hair is usually fine at 180 to 200 °C, and only thick, coarse hair needs 200 °C or more. Start low and raise the setting only if one pass does not give the result you want.
Is a straightening brush better than a flat iron?
It depends on the finish you want. A straightening brush is quicker to use and easier for beginners, and it gives a smooth, natural look. A flat iron gives a flatter, sleeker result and is better for stubborn or very curly hair.
Should I choose ceramic, tourmaline or titanium plates?
Ceramic plates are a sound all-round choice because they spread heat evenly. Tourmaline-coated plates are often chosen to reduce frizz, and titanium plates heat quickly and suit thick hair. Whatever the material, adjustable temperature matters more for hair health.
Can I use a hair straightener abroad?
Yes, if its voltage rating covers the local supply. Many models in our range are rated 110 to 240 V, which works in most countries with a plug adapter. If the label shows only 220 to 240 V, a voltage converter would be needed in countries with a 110 V supply.
