Remote controls and AV cables

Remote controls and AV cables

Remote controls and AV cables for TVs and home entertainment: replacement and universal remotes, HDMI cables, audio cables, video cables and adapters (DisplayPort, VGA, DVI, SCART) and antenna cables. Shoppers will find brands such as Sony, Samsung, Lanberg and Gembird here, whether they are replacing a lost remote or connecting a new device.

How to choose a remote control or AV cable

Remote compatibility. A replacement remote should match your TV brand and, ideally, the exact model. Original-style remotes from makers such as Sony, Samsung and Philips work out of the box, while universal remotes usually need a setup code or a pairing step. Check the model number on the back of your TV or on the old remote before ordering.

HDMI version. HDMI 2.0 handles 4K at 60 Hz, which is enough for most streaming boxes and TVs. For 4K at 120 Hz on a games console or a high-end TV, look for a cable labelled HDMI 2.1 or Ultra High Speed. Older High Speed cables work fine for Full HD and standard 4K video.

Connector type. Make sure both ends match your devices. Our range includes HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, DVI and SCART, as well as adapters between them. Be aware that converting a digital signal such as HDMI to an analogue one such as VGA or SCART usually needs an active converter, not just a plug adapter.

Length and quality. Buy the shortest cable that reaches comfortably, because very long runs can cause signal dropouts, especially at 4K. Shielded cables with gold-plated connectors resist interference better. For runs of several metres, choose a cable specified for the resolution you need rather than the cheapest option.

Audio connection. Audio cables cover analogue links such as 3.5 mm jack and RCA, as well as digital options. Match the output on your TV to the input on your soundbar or amplifier, and check which of the two your equipment supports before choosing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the right remote for my TV?

Start with the TV brand and the model number, which is printed on a label at the back or in the settings menu. Compare it with the models listed for the remote. If the original is no longer available, a universal remote that supports your brand is a workable alternative.

Which HDMI cable do I need for 4K?

A High Speed or HDMI 2.0 cable is enough for 4K at 60 Hz. If you want 4K at 120 Hz, for example from a current games console, choose an HDMI 2.1 or Ultra High Speed cable. Both your TV and the source device must support the same standard.

Are more expensive HDMI cables better?

Not necessarily. A digital HDMI signal either arrives intact or it does not, so the version rating and build quality matter more than the price. Better shielding and sturdier connectors help with long cable runs and with cables that are plugged in and out often.

Can I connect a laptop with DisplayPort or VGA to my TV?

Yes, using the right cable or adapter. DisplayPort to HDMI is usually simple, while VGA is analogue and needs a converter to reach an HDMI input, with separate audio. Check which ports your laptop and TV have before choosing.
