Home electronics

Home electronics covers household and entertainment devices: kitchen appliances, security cameras, TVs, robot vacuums, speakers and soundbars, coffee machines and personal care devices, plus DJ, studio and stage equipment. It suits families equipping a home as well as venues and event organisers. The range of over 31,000 products includes Philips, Bosch, Roborock, Hikvision and EUROLITE.

How to choose home electronics

Room size and placement. Match the device to the space it will work in. In a typical living room, a TV of 43 to 55 inches suits viewing from two to three metres. Air purifiers and humidifiers are rated for a maximum room area, so choose one rated above your room, not just at its size.

Connections and smart control. Check the ports and wireless standards before you buy. A TV or soundbar needs the right HDMI and Bluetooth support for your other devices. Robot vacuums, coffee machines and cameras often rely on a Wi-Fi app, so confirm that it works with your router and phone.

Camera type and storage. Decide first whether the camera is for indoors or outdoors, as outdoor models need weather protection and good night vision. Then decide how footage is stored: a memory card, a network recorder or the cloud. Cameras powered over a network cable (PoE) need fewer wires but need a compatible switch or recorder.

Upkeep and running costs. Look at what you will need to replace or clean. Vacuums have filters and brushes, air purifiers need new filters, and coffee machines need descaling. Kitchen appliances and irons should also be checked for their energy use and how easy the parts are to wash.

Venue size for stage and DJ gear. Speakers, mixers and lighting should match the size of the room and the number of people. For lighting, check for DMX control if you want to run several fixtures from one controller. For sound, check the connections between the mixer, amplifier and speakers.

Frequently asked questions about home electronics

What size TV should I buy for a living room?

For most living rooms, a screen of 43 to 55 inches works well when you sit two to three metres away. Larger rooms or longer distances call for a bigger screen. Check the wall or stand width before you order.

Do security cameras need Wi-Fi?

No, not all of them. Wi-Fi cameras are easier to install, but a wired PoE camera carries power and video on one network cable and is usually steadier. The choice depends on whether you can run a cable to the camera position.

How often should I change an air purifier filter?

Most manufacturers recommend replacing the filter every six to twelve months, but this depends on the model and how much you use it. Homes with pets, smoke or heavy dust may need to change it sooner. Check the manual or the filter indicator on the device.

Is a robot vacuum good for pet hair?

A robot vacuum can keep up with pet hair on hard floors and low-pile carpet if it has a good brush and a bin you can empty easily. It will not replace a full clean of upholstery or deep carpets. Choose a model with a brush that resists tangling if your pet sheds a lot.
