How to choose a watch strap or bracelet
Compatibility. Start with your exact watch model. Many straps are sized by lug width in millimetres, while Apple Watch bands are matched to the case size, so a band for a smaller case will not necessarily suit a larger one. Garmin watches often use QuickFit fittings, which only accept straps made for that system or a matching width.
Material. Silicone is the usual choice for running, gym sessions and swimming because it tolerates sweat and water. Leather looks smarter for the office but does not like frequent soaking. Fabric and nylon bands are lighter and breathable, while metal bracelets are durable but heavier and need correct link sizing.
Fastening and fit. Buckles, pin-and-tuck clasps, magnetic closures and hook-and-loop bands each hold differently. Measure your wrist and compare it with the stated strap length, especially if you have a very slim or large wrist. A band that sits too loose gives poor heart rate readings on most watches.
Original or third-party. Manufacturer straps are made to the exact dimensions of the watch and are the safest option if you want a guaranteed fit. Third-party straps usually offer more colours, textures and styles, so check the stated compatibility list before ordering.
