Power banks

Power banks

Power banks are portable batteries for charging phones, tablets, earbuds and, in some models, laptops away from a socket. Our range covers compact and mid-capacity models, high-capacity units, wireless and magnetic power banks, solar models, jump starters and portable power stations from brands including Belkin, Anker, Baseus and Xiaomi.

How to choose a power bank

Capacity. Capacity is measured in mAh, and the usable amount is always lower than the label because some energy is lost during conversion. A 10000 mAh model usually gives a phone around two full charges, while 20000 mAh and above suits tablets, shared use or several days without a socket.

Output and ports. Check the watts as well as the capacity. A phone is happy with roughly 20 to 30 W over USB-C, but a laptop usually needs 45 W or more through USB-C Power Delivery. Several ports let you charge two devices at once, although the output is often split between them.

Wireless or cable. Magnetic wireless power banks attach to compatible phones and need no cable, but they charge more slowly and waste more energy as heat than a wired connection. Models with a built-in cable save you carrying one, so check that the connector suits your phone.

Size and travel rules. Airlines generally allow power banks only in hand luggage and limit them to 100 Wh, which is roughly 27000 mAh. Compact models fit a pocket, while high-capacity ones are noticeably heavy in a bag.

Power bank brands we carry

  • Anker: one of the best-known names in power banks and fast chargers, with a long-standing focus on charging technology.
  • Belkin: known for phone and laptop charging accessories, including magnetic wireless power banks made for iPhone.
  • Baseus: a charging specialist that makes power banks, GaN chargers and cables in a wide variety of designs.
  • UGREEN: makes chargers, cables and hubs alongside its power banks, so it is easy to build a matching set.
  • Xiaomi: known for large-capacity power banks at modest cost, sold for years under the Mi name.
  • Xtorm: a Dutch brand with a strong line of rugged and solar-assisted power banks.
  • Hama and Intenso: German accessory brands, Intenso being best known for USB storage before adding power banks.
  • Verbatim: a long-established maker of storage media that also sells power banks.
  • Vention: known mainly for cables and adapters, which makes it a natural source for accessories.

Also in our range: SANDBERG and REALPOWER.

Beyond standard models, shoppers will find jump starters for starting a flat car battery, so match the engine size to the rated starting current. Solar power banks and portable power stations cover outdoor use and short power cuts, and a separate subcategory holds laptop power banks.

Power bank FAQ

How many times will a 10000 mAh power bank charge a phone?

A 10000 mAh power bank typically charges a modern smartphone about two times. The exact figure depends on the phone's battery size and on conversion losses, which usually leave around two thirds of the rated capacity usable. Larger phones and fast charging reduce the number of full charges.

Can I take a power bank on a plane?

Yes, but airlines generally require power banks to be in hand luggage, not checked baggage. Most limit them to 100 Wh, which is around 27000 mAh, so very large units may not be allowed. Check your airline's rules before you travel.

Can a power bank charge a laptop?

Yes, if the power bank has a USB-C Power Delivery output that matches your laptop's needs. Many laptops need 45 W or more, and a standard phone power bank will charge them very slowly or not at all. Look for a model designed for laptops and check the maximum output in watts.

Are wireless power banks slower than cable ones?

Yes, wireless power banks usually charge more slowly than a cable. Wireless charging loses more energy as heat, so the battery also empties faster per charge delivered. Magnetic models are convenient for topping up during the day, while a cable is better when you need a quick, full charge.
