How to choose a battery charger
Battery type and model. A charger must be made for the exact battery you own. Some chargers handle standard rechargeable cells, while others are built for one camera or device battery only. Check the model code printed on the battery before you order.
Compatibility list. Camera battery chargers name the batteries they accept. In our range these include Canon LP-E8, LP-E17, NB-6L, NB-7L, NB-10L and BP-511, Nikon EN-EL5, EN-EL14, EN-EL19 and EN-EL23, and Olympus BLN-1. There is also a charger listed for the Brother RJ-4230B. If your code is not on the list, the charger is not the right one.
Number of slots. A single-slot charger is fine for one camera body. If you shoot events or travel for several days, a charger that takes two batteries at once saves a lot of waiting. Chargers for standard cells often take four at a time, which suits devices that use cells in sets.
Power source and portability. Mains chargers are the usual choice for home or studio use. A charger that runs from USB is easier to pack, since it can be powered from a laptop, a wall adapter or a power bank. Check which connection the charger uses and whether a cable or plug is included.
Charging speed and protection. Faster charging helps when you need a battery within hours, but gentler charging is kinder to older cells. Look for automatic cut-off when the battery is full and protection against overheating, especially if you charge overnight.

Battery chargers FAQ
Can one charger work with every battery?
No. Chargers are designed for a specific battery shape, voltage and chemistry. A charger for standard AA or AAA cells will not fit a camera battery, and a camera charger will only accept the models on its compatibility list.
How do I find the right charger for my camera?
Take the battery out of the camera and read the model code printed on it, for example EN-EL14 or LP-E17. Then look for a charger that lists that exact code. If you only know the camera model, check the manual, which names the battery it uses.
How long does it take to charge a battery?
It depends on the battery capacity and the charging current of the charger. Many camera batteries take a few hours on a standard charger, while a fast charger shortens that. The charger or battery packaging usually states the expected charging time.
Is it safe to leave a battery charging overnight?
Chargers with automatic cut-off are designed to stop when the battery is full, so overnight charging is generally fine with them. Use a charger made for your battery type, keep it on a hard, dry surface and do not cover it while it works. If the battery or charger becomes unusually hot, unplug it.
