High-power chargers (60 W+)

High-power chargers (60 W+)

High-power chargers of 60 W and above are mains wall chargers that can run a laptop, tablet and phone from a single USB-C plug. Our range of over 160 models includes single-port and multi-port chargers from brands such as Qoltec, Hama, Belkin, Tucano and Baseus.

Nearly all are indoor chargers for home, office or travel use.

How to choose a high-power charger

Wattage. Check the rating printed on your laptop's original charger and pick the same figure or higher. A charger with a higher rating is safe, because the device only draws what it needs, while a lower one may charge slowly or not keep up under load.

Number of ports. Our range includes chargers with one, two or three USB-C ports, and some can power up to five devices at once. When several ports are in use the total output is usually shared, so look at what each port delivers with everything plugged in, not just the headline figure.

Charging standard. Laptops charge over USB-C using USB Power Delivery, so make sure it is listed. Many chargers here are described as universal, meaning they suit laptops, tablets and smartphones, but a few are aimed mainly at phones and tablets, so read the compatibility line.

Cable. Standard USB-C cables are rated for up to 60 W. Charging a laptop at higher power needs a cable rated for 5 A, and a charger without one in the box will need a suitable cable bought separately.

Input voltage and use. Most chargers listed accept 100 to 240 V, which covers South African mains and sockets abroad, with only a plug adapter needed when travelling. If you carry the charger daily, a smaller body matters more than an extra port.

High-power chargers: frequently asked questions

Can I charge my laptop with a 65 W USB-C charger?

Yes, if the laptop supports USB-C charging and needs 65 W or less. Check the wattage on the original charger first. If the laptop asks for more, a 65 W charger may still work but charge slowly, particularly while the laptop is in heavy use.

Will a high-power charger damage my phone?

No, a phone only draws the power it can accept. The charger and the device agree on a safe voltage and current through the charging standard, so a 100 W charger is as safe for a phone as a 20 W one.

What is the difference between a 65 W and a 100 W charger?

The difference is the amount of power available. A 65 W charger covers most thin-and-light laptops, while 100 W suits larger laptops or lets you charge a laptop and a phone together. Check what your laptop needs and how many devices you want to charge at once.

Do I need a GaN charger?

No, GaN is not required, but it is useful. Chargers using gallium nitride can be smaller and run cooler than older silicon designs at the same wattage, which helps if you travel with the charger.
