Power banks

Power banks

Power banks are portable batteries that charge phones, tablets, earbuds and smartwatches away from a wall socket, and larger models can also top up laptops. Our range of over 40 models runs from small pocket packs to high-capacity units, from brands such as Baseus, Vention, Blow, Gembird and Everactive.

How to choose a power bank

Capacity. Capacity is shown in mAh or Wh, and our range includes both 5000 mAh and 10000 mAh models as well as larger packs rated at 18.5 Wh, 38.5 Wh, 73 Wh and 77 Wh. Pick about 10000 mAh for daily phone top-ups, and move to the 70 Wh class if you want to charge a laptop or tablet more than once. Real usable capacity is always lower than the rated figure because some energy is lost during voltage conversion.

Output and charging speed. Check the maximum output in watts, not just the capacity. A phone is happy with a modest output, while a laptop needs a USB-C power bank with Power Delivery that matches or comes close to the wattage of its original charger. A low-output pack will still charge a laptop, but very slowly, or not at all under load.

Ports and connected devices. Models in our range have one or two USB Type-C ports, and some can charge up to three devices at once. Two ports are useful if you travel with a phone and earbuds, or a phone and a smartwatch. Check whether the output is shared between ports, because the speed per device often drops when several are in use.

Display, size and travel rules. A built-in display shows the remaining charge as a percentage, which is more helpful than four small LEDs when you are planning a day out. Larger batteries are heavier, so weigh the extra capacity against what you will carry. For flights, power banks go in hand luggage, and most airlines set a limit of 100 Wh per unit.

Power bank brands in our range

  • Baseus: known for fast-charging accessories, and the brand with the most power banks in our range.
  • Vention: a maker of cables, chargers and mobile accessories, which makes its power banks easy to pair with matching cables.
  • Lenovo: a major computer manufacturer, so its power banks suit buyers who want to charge laptops and other devices from a single brand.
  • Trust: known for computer peripherals and everyday accessories, with simple power banks for phones and tablets.
  • Patona and Green Cell: both specialise in replacement batteries and chargers, which is where their experience with battery packs comes from.
  • Gembird: a supplier of cables, adapters and computer accessories, with power banks that follow the same practical approach.

Also in our range: Blow, Everactive, Havit, iBOX and Esperanza.

Power banks FAQ

How many times can a 10000 mAh power bank charge a phone?

A 10000 mAh power bank usually charges a typical smartphone about two times. Most phone batteries hold 4000 to 5000 mAh, and some energy is lost as heat during charging. Phones with large batteries will get fewer full charges.

What is the difference between mAh and Wh on a power bank?

Milliamp-hours (mAh) show charge, while watt-hours (Wh) show total energy, so Wh is the fairer figure for comparing packs. You can estimate Wh by multiplying mAh by the cell voltage (around 3.7 V) and dividing by 1000. A 10000 mAh power bank is therefore roughly 37 Wh.

Can a power bank charge a laptop?

Yes, if it has a USB-C port with Power Delivery and enough output for your laptop. Check the wattage on your laptop charger and choose a power bank that can supply a similar amount. Packs in the 70 Wh class are the usual starting point for laptop use.

Can I take a power bank on a plane?

Yes, but only in your hand luggage, never in checked baggage. Most airlines allow power banks up to 100 Wh without special approval, and the Wh rating is printed on most units. If yours shows only mAh, convert it using the voltage, or check the airline's rules before you fly.
