Android tablets

Android tablets in our range cover over 140 models, from 8.7-inch devices for reading and travel to 14.6-inch screens for video, drawing and light office work. They suit families, students and anyone who wants a touchscreen device without moving to a laptop. Samsung, Lenovo, Blackview and Xiaomi are the leading brands, alongside Acer and Huawei.

How to choose an Android tablet

Screen size. Around 8 to 9 inches is easy to hold in one hand for reading and commuting, while 11 inches is the most common size in our range and works well for streaming and video calls. Screens of 13.1 and 14.6 inches are better for split-screen multitasking, drawing or using the tablet with a keyboard.

Storage and memory. A 128 GB tablet is the most common choice in our range and covers apps, photos and some downloaded video. Choose 64 GB only for basic use, and 256 GB or more if you store films offline, play large games or keep many documents. For RAM, 4 GB handles browsing and video, while 8 GB or 12 GB keeps multitasking smooth for longer, and a few models offer 16 GB.

Display quality. IPS panels are the most listed type in our range and give good viewing angles and natural colour. AMOLED screens, found on some models, offer deeper blacks and stronger contrast for films. Resolution matters as much as size: 1920 x 1200 pixels is fine for everyday use, while 2560 x 1600 and higher keeps text and detail sharper on larger screens.

Battery and build. Battery capacity is listed in mAh, from about 5100 mAh to over 11000 mAh in our range. Larger tablets generally carry bigger batteries, so compare capacity only between similar screen sizes. If the tablet will be used on site or outdoors, a rugged model is a better fit than a standard slate.

Android tablet FAQ

How much storage do I need on an Android tablet?

128 GB is enough for most people and is the most common size in our range. Choose 64 GB if you mainly browse, read and stream online. Go for 256 GB or more if you download films, play large games or work with big files.

What screen size is best for an Android tablet?

An 11-inch screen suits most buyers, as it is large enough for video and documents yet still easy to carry. Screens of 8 to 9 inches are better for reading and one-handed use. Choose 13 inches or more if you want to multitask or draw.

Is an AMOLED tablet better than an IPS tablet?

AMOLED screens generally give deeper blacks and higher contrast, which is noticeable when watching films in a dim room. IPS panels are still very good, with wide viewing angles and accurate colour, and are usually found on more affordable models. Resolution and brightness also affect picture quality, so check them as well as the panel type.

Can an Android tablet replace a laptop?

For browsing, email, video calls, note-taking and streaming, an Android tablet can replace a laptop, especially with a keyboard case. It is less suited to desktop-class software, heavy file management or demanding multitasking. If your work depends on specific Windows or macOS programs, a laptop remains the safer choice.
