IP phones in our range are desk phones, cordless DECT handsets and conference phones that make calls over a data network instead of a traditional telephone line. How to choose an IP phone
Platform compatibility. Check which phone system the phone will connect to before anything else. Most SIP phones work with a wide choice of hosted services and IP PBXs, but some models are built for a specific platform, such as Mitel, Unify or Avaya systems, and need that platform's server to unlock all features. If you use Microsoft Teams, look for a model designed and certified for it.
Power and network connection. Power over Ethernet (PoE) lets one network cable carry both data and power, which removes the need for a plug adapter at every desk. Check that your switch supplies PoE, or budget for adapters. Gigabit ports are worth having if the phone shares its cable with a computer, and built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is useful where cabling is awkward.
Display, line keys and handset type. A basic phone with a small monochrome screen and a few lines is enough for occasional callers. Receptionists and sales teams usually need more programmable keys, a colour display and busy lamp field (BLF) indicators to see colleagues' status. For people who move around a warehouse or workshop, a DECT handset with a base station is more practical than a fixed desk phone.
Audio and accessories. Look for wideband (HD) audio and a proper full-duplex speakerphone if the phone will be used hands-free. Staff who spend hours on calls will want a headset port or Bluetooth support. For meeting rooms, a dedicated conference phone with several microphones picks up a table of people far better than a desk phone.

IP phone FAQ
What is the difference between an IP phone and an analogue phone?
An IP phone sends voice as data over your network, while an analogue phone uses a traditional copper line. IP phones connect with a network cable or Wi-Fi and support features such as multiple accounts, programmable keys and directory access. They need a VoIP service or IP PBX to place calls.
Does an IP phone need PoE?
No, PoE is optional on most IP phones. If your network switch supports it, one cable provides both power and data. Without PoE you can use a separate power adapter, which many models need to be bought separately.
Will any IP phone work with any VoIP provider?
Not always, although most SIP phones work with any provider that supports the SIP standard. Some models are designed for one vendor's platform and offer fewer features elsewhere. Check the provider's list of supported or compatible devices before you buy.
Can I use an IP phone with Microsoft Teams?
Yes, but only with a phone designed for Teams or one that supports it through its firmware. Teams devices typically have a dedicated Teams button and sign in with a Microsoft account. A standard SIP phone will not usually offer this without a compatible gateway or service.
