Laminators

Laminators

Laminators in this category seal documents, photos, labels and signs in plastic pouches, for home offices, schools, workshops and small businesses. The range covers hot, cold and combined hot and cold models in A4 and A3 formats. Leading brands include Fellowes, HP, Tracer and Peach.

How to choose a laminator

Format. Pick the largest sheet you expect to laminate, not the average one. A4 laminators are the most common in our range and handle letters, certificates and worksheets. A3 models are available for posters, menus and drawings, but they take up more desk space.

Maximum lamination width. An A4 sheet is 216 mm wide, so the machine needs an opening of at least about 23 cm to take a standard A4 pouch. Our range lists widths from 23 cm up to 34 cm, and the wider openings are the ones to look at if you also want A3 or a border around the sheet.

Hot, cold or both. Hot laminators use heat to melt the adhesive in the pouch and give a firm, durable seal for everyday paperwork. Cold laminators use pressure-sensitive film and are the safer option for heat-sensitive items such as some photos, printouts and stickers. Combined hot and cold models cover both jobs, and our range includes all three types.

Pouch thickness and speed. Pouch thickness is measured in microns, and thicker pouches give a stiffer result but need a machine that supports them. Check the supported range in the specifications. If you laminate in batches, also look at warm-up time and lamination speed, since a slow machine becomes tiresome with a stack of sheets.

Laminator FAQ

Which laminator size do I need for A4 documents?

Choose an A4 laminator, ideally with a maximum lamination width of at least 23 cm. This fits a standard A4 pouch, which is 216 mm wide. If you may also laminate A3 posters or drawings later, buy an A3 model, because an A4 machine cannot take the wider pouch.

Is a hot or cold laminator better?

A hot laminator suits most paperwork, while a cold laminator suits items that heat could damage. Hot lamination gives a firm, durable seal on documents, cards and signs. Cold lamination works for some photos, printouts and stickers, and a combined hot and cold model handles both.

Can I use any pouch in a laminator?

No, the pouch must match both the machine and the sheet size. Check the thickness range the laminator supports, and use cold pouches only in machines that offer a cold setting. Pouches that are too thick can jam a basic machine or seal poorly.

How do I stop a laminator from jamming?

Feed the sealed end of the pouch in first, and keep the sheet straight inside it. Let a hot laminator reach its working temperature before you start, and choose a pouch thickness the machine supports. Leaving a small gap between pouches in a batch also helps the rollers feed them evenly.
