How to choose a laser printer
Mono or colour. Most laser printers in our range print in black only, which is enough for letters, invoices and reports. Colour models use black, cyan, magenta and yellow toner, so they need four cartridges and cost more to run. Choose colour only if you print marketing material, presentations or charts often.
Paper size and tray capacity. Most models handle A4, A5 and A6, and a small number go up to A3. Input trays commonly hold 150 or 250 sheets, while larger office models offer 550 sheets or more with optional extra trays. For a shared printer, a bigger input tray and an output tray of 150 sheets or more mean fewer interruptions.
Print-only or multifunction. A print-only model is simpler and often cheaper. A multifunction device adds scanning, copying and sometimes faxing, which helps if you digitise paperwork or copy documents regularly.
Resolution and memory. Maximum resolution in our range includes 600 x 600 DPI, 1200 x 1200 DPI and 2400 x 600 DPI. For text documents, 600 DPI is already clear, and higher values matter mainly for fine graphics. Internal memory runs from 64 MB to 1 GB, and extra memory helps with large, image-heavy files and with several users sending jobs at once.
Running costs. Check the page yield and price of the toner cartridge, and whether the drum is separate. A cheaper printer with small starter cartridges can cost more per page than a dearer model with high-yield toner.
