How to choose a receipt or POS printer
Print technology. Direct thermal prints on heat-sensitive paper with no ink or ribbon, which is why most receipt printers use it. Thermal transfer uses a ribbon and produces labels that last longer, and some models in our range support both methods. Inkjet and dot matrix printers are also available, and dot matrix is still used where multi-part carbon copies are needed, such as kitchen tickets.
Connectivity. Match the interface to your POS setup. Many models in our range offer both wired and wireless connections, while others are wired only. A counter-top printer on a fixed till is usually best on USB or Ethernet, whereas a tablet-based POS needs Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
Resolution. Models in our range print at 180, 203 or 300 DPI. 203 DPI is enough for receipts, text and standard barcodes. 300 DPI gives sharper logos, small barcodes and fine label text.
Working environment. Check the operating temperature and humidity ratings if the printer will sit in a kitchen, a cold store or a warehouse. Several models in our range work from around -5 to 45 °C, and some rugged ones cover a much wider span. Many are rated for roughly 10 to 90% relative humidity.
Paper width and speed. Most receipt printers take either 58 mm or 80 mm rolls. The 80 mm width fits more detail and is the usual choice for busy tills. An automatic cutter and a faster print speed save time when queues build up.

What is the difference between a receipt printer and a label printer?
A receipt printer prints on continuous paper rolls, usually 58 mm or 80 mm wide, and cuts them to length. A label printer prints on self-adhesive labels and often supports thermal transfer for more durable results. Some models in our range can handle both kinds of media.
Does a POS printer need ink?
Most do not. Direct thermal printers use heat-sensitive paper, so there is no ink, toner or ribbon to replace. Thermal transfer models need a ribbon, and inkjet or dot matrix models use cartridges or ink ribbons.
Which paper size should I choose?

Can I connect a receipt printer to a tablet?
