Office supplies

Office supplies

Office supplies in our range cover printers, scanners, projectors, conference equipment, point-of-sale hardware and multifunction devices for offices, shops, warehouses and meeting rooms. Leading brands include ZEBRA, EPSON, HONEYWELL and Brother, with over 18,000 products across a dozen subcategories.

How to choose office equipment

Start with the job. Label printers and barcode scanners suit stockrooms, shops and dispatch desks, while laser printers and document scanners suit paperwork. Projectors and conference equipment are for meeting rooms. Buying for the task first stops you paying for features you will never use.

Printing technology. Laser printers handle large volumes of text documents quickly and keep their toner for a long time between uses. Inkjet models are better for occasional colour printing and photos, and ink tank versions bring the cost per page down. Thermal printers print labels and receipts without ink or toner.

Running costs. The purchase price is only part of the cost of a printer. Check the page yield of the cartridges or toner, and whether compatible consumables are available for the model. For a busy office, a printer with high-capacity cartridges is usually cheaper to run than a cheaper one with small ones.

Scanner type and connection. Barcode scanners come as 1D (lines only) or 2D (also QR and data matrix codes, including codes on phone screens). Cordless models help in warehouses, and a USB cable is enough at a till. For documents, choose a sheet-fed scanner for stacks of paper and a flatbed for bound or fragile originals. Network printers and scanners with Ethernet or Wi-Fi are easier to share between several users.

Projector brightness. Brightness in lumens matters more than most other figures in a room with windows. A small, dark room works with a lower figure, while a large meeting room with daylight needs a brighter model. Match the native resolution to your laptops and presentations.

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy a laser or inkjet printer for the office?

A laser printer is usually the better choice for an office that prints mainly black text in volume. It prints quickly and the toner does not dry out when the printer sits idle. An inkjet suits low volumes of colour work, and ink tank models make frequent printing cheaper.

What is the difference between a 1D and a 2D barcode scanner?

A 1D scanner reads traditional line barcodes, while a 2D scanner also reads QR codes and data matrix codes. 2D models can read codes from phone screens and damaged labels, which helps with mobile tickets and loyalty cards. If you only scan product barcodes on packaging, 1D is often enough.

What is a multifunction device?

A multifunction device combines printing, scanning and copying in a single unit, and many models also send faxes. It takes up less space and costs less than separate machines. It works well for small offices, though a busy department may still prefer a dedicated printer.

What do I need for a point-of-sale setup?

A basic point-of-sale setup normally needs a receipt printer, a barcode scanner and a cash drawer, plus a till system or computer to run them. Check that the connections match, for example USB or Ethernet, and that the software supports your devices. Cash handling equipment such as note counters can be added later.
