This category covers HDMI and DisplayPort cables, video adapters and converters, DVI and VGA cables, splitters, extenders, internal PC cables and docking stations for connecting monitors and other peripherals. It suits anyone wiring up a screen, a desk or a PC build. Brands in our range include DeLock, Lenovo, InLine, StarTech and LINDY.
How to choose a monitor cable or adapter
Connector and standard. Start with the ports on your device and monitor: HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, VGA or USB-C. Then check the version, because high resolutions and refresh rates need a recent standard such as HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4, on the cable as well as on both devices.
Cable or adapter type. A simple passive adapter works only when both ports use compatible signals. Going from a digital output to an analogue input, for example HDMI to VGA, needs an active converter with its own electronics, and audio usually has to be connected separately.
Length. Choose the shortest cable that reaches comfortably. At 4K, very long passive cables can cause flickering or dropouts. For runs of many metres, look at active cables or the extenders in the splitters and extenders subcategory.
Build and colour. Good shielding, firmly fitted connectors and screw-down fixings on DVI and VGA plugs help in offices and behind desks where cables are moved often. Black is by far the most common colour in our range, but white, grey and silver versions are available if you want the cable to blend in.

Frequently asked questions
Which HDMI cable do I need for 4K?
Look for a cable that is rated High Speed or Ultra High Speed. High Speed cables handle 4K at 60 Hz, while Ultra High Speed cables are intended for HDMI 2.1 features such as 4K at 120 Hz. Your screen and source device must support the same standard.
Can I connect HDMI to VGA?
Yes, but you need an active HDMI to VGA converter, not just a plain cable. The converter changes the digital signal to analogue. VGA carries no sound, so audio needs a separate connection if you want it.
What is the difference between HDMI and DisplayPort?
Both carry video and audio, but they are common on different devices. HDMI is standard on TVs and consoles, while DisplayPort is more common on PC graphics cards and monitors. DisplayPort also makes it easier to chain multiple monitors on some systems.
How long can a monitor cable be?
It depends on the standard and the resolution. Short and medium cables work well for most desks, but at 4K or high refresh rates the signal can weaken over longer distances. For longer runs, choose an active cable or a signal extender.
