Digital signage players

Digital signage players

Digital signage players are the small devices that store and play videos, images and playlists on commercial screens, menu boards, video walls and information displays. Our range covers dedicated media players and related signage hardware for shops, offices, schools and venues. Leading brands include BrightSign, ALLNET, Kindermann and LG.

How to choose a digital signage player

Resolution and playback. Match the player to the screen. A Full HD display needs nothing more than a Full HD player, while a 4K screen needs a player that outputs 4K at a steady frame rate. If you plan to split one screen into zones, for example video beside a news ticker, check that the player supports several content zones at once.

Content management. Decide who will update the content and how often. Some players run from a USB stick or memory card and suit content that rarely changes. Others connect to a cloud or local management platform, so you can schedule playlists and update many screens from one desk. Check which software works with the player before you buy.

Connections. Count what you need to plug in: HDMI for the display, Ethernet for reliable updates, USB or a memory card slot for local storage, and audio output if the screen has no speakers. Wired networking is usually the safer choice for screens that run all day. Wi-Fi is fine where cabling is difficult.

Built for continuous running. Signage players often run every hour the shop is open, or around the clock. Look for solid-state storage and a design without moving parts. Also think about how the unit will be mounted, whether behind the screen, on a wall or in a rack.

Number of screens. One player can drive a single display, several identical displays through a splitter, or a video wall. For synchronised content on separate screens, choose a player that supports synchronised playback, or use one player for each screen.

Digital signage players: frequently asked questions

What is a digital signage player?

A digital signage player is a small computer that sends videos, images and playlists to a screen. It connects to the display, usually by HDMI, and plays stored or streamed content on a schedule. Screens in shops, restaurants, reception areas and schools commonly use one.

Do I need a separate player if my display has one built in?

Not always. Many commercial displays include an internal player that handles simple playlists and scheduled content. A separate player makes sense when you need more advanced features, content zones, a particular management platform or a way to upgrade the player without replacing the screen.

Can I update content on a digital signage player remotely?

Yes, if the player connects to a network and works with a management platform. You can then upload files, change schedules and update several screens from one location. Players without network features rely on a USB stick or memory card, which someone has to change on site.

Do I need a 4K signage player?

You need a 4K player only if the screen is 4K and you want to show content at that resolution. For a Full HD display, a Full HD player is enough. If you may upgrade the screens later, a 4K-capable player avoids buying twice.
