Commercial and specialty displays

Commercial and specialty displays

Commercial and specialty displays cover digital signage screens, portable monitors, touchscreen monitors, interactive displays, signage players and mounting accessories. They suit shops, offices, classrooms, restaurants and anyone who needs a screen for a job a standard desktop monitor cannot do. Brands in our range include iiyama, Samsung, LG and AG Neovo.

How to choose a commercial or specialty display

Purpose. Decide first what the screen has to do. A menu board, a wayfinding screen, a classroom whiteboard and a second screen for a laptop are four different products, and each has its own subcategory in our range.

Operating hours and build. Signage displays are generally designed to run for long periods, often all day, while a consumer monitor is not. If the screen will be on for most of the working day, choose a model sold for commercial use. Check whether it can be mounted in portrait as well as landscape.

Touch and interaction. Touchscreen monitors suit tills, kiosks and self-service points. Interactive displays are larger and built for presenting and writing on screen in meeting rooms and classrooms. Check how many simultaneous touch points the screen supports and whether your operating system is compatible.

Connectivity and playback. Some signage displays play content from a USB stick or a built-in system, while others need a separate signage player. Make sure the inputs match your source: HDMI is the most common, and portable monitors often connect and draw power through a single USB-C cable.

Size and mounting. Measure the viewing distance and the wall or stand space before choosing a size. Check the VESA mounting pattern so the display and bracket fit together. Our mounts and accessories section covers the extras.

Frequently asked questions about commercial and specialty displays

What is the difference between a signage display and a normal monitor?

A signage display is built to run for long periods and show content to an audience, often in public. Many models have a sturdier casing, support portrait mounting and can play content on their own or from a connected player. A normal monitor is designed for a single person at a desk for shorter sessions.

Do I need a separate player for digital signage?

Not always. Some signage displays have a built-in system or USB playback, which is enough for simple slideshows or looping videos. A separate player is better when you need to schedule content, manage several screens or run more complex layouts.

What is a portable monitor used for?

A portable monitor is a slim, light external screen that you carry with a laptop to add a second display. Most connect over USB-C or HDMI. They help when you travel, work from different locations or need extra screen space without a full desk setup.

Can I use a touchscreen monitor with any computer?

Most touchscreen monitors connect with a video cable and a USB cable for touch, and work with common systems such as Windows. Compatibility depends on the model, so check the supported operating systems and the number of touch points before buying.
