Digital signage displays

Digital signage displays

Digital signage displays are large-format commercial screens for shops, restaurants, offices, schools, reception areas and control rooms. Our range covers standard display panels, high-brightness models, video wall displays and interactive touchscreens from brands such as Samsung, LG, Philips and iiyama.

How to choose a digital signage display

Size and viewing distance. Pick the size by how far away people will stand. A menu board read from two metres needs a much smaller panel than a lobby screen seen from across the room. Check the wall space and mounting points before you settle on a diagonal.

Brightness and location. Screens in a shop window or near large windows need far higher brightness than screens in a dim corridor. Standard indoor panels are usually fine away from daylight, while sunlit spots call for a dedicated high-brightness model.

Operating hours. Many commercial displays are rated for 16 or 24 hours a day, which a normal television is not designed for. If the screen will run all day, check the rated hours and whether portrait mounting is supported.

Built-in player or external source. Some displays have a media player and content platform inside, so you can schedule content over the network with no extra box. Others simply show whatever an external player or PC sends them over HDMI or DisplayPort. Look for LAN and RS-232 control if you manage many screens.

Touch and video walls. Interactive models suit wayfinding, classrooms and meeting rooms. For a video wall, look for displays with very thin bezels so the seams between panels stay narrow.

Digital signage brands in our range

  • Samsung: runs its commercial displays on the Tizen-based smart signage platform, with a built-in player and remote management.
  • LG: offers webOS Signage on many of its commercial screens, along with video wall and OLED signage panels.
  • Philips: makes professional displays with an Android-based system on a chip in many models, so content can be played without a separate box.
  • iiyama: best known for its ProLite range of commercial displays and monitors, including models rated for long operating hours.
  • ViewSonic: known for ViewBoard interactive displays as well as standard commercial signage screens.
  • Sharp and NEC: NEC MultiSync large-format displays are common in control rooms, retail and corporate lobbies, and the two brands now operate together as Sharp NEC Display Solutions.
  • Sony: brings Bravia professional displays, built on its television picture processing, to commercial installations.
  • Avocor: focuses on interactive displays for classrooms and meeting rooms.
  • Dahua: is a video surveillance specialist that also makes LCD video wall displays for monitoring rooms.

Also in our range: Hisense and Ernitec.

Digital signage displays: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a digital signage display and a TV?

A digital signage display is built for continuous commercial use, while a TV is designed for a few hours of viewing a day. Signage displays typically offer longer rated operating hours, portrait mounting, control ports such as RS-232 and LAN, and sometimes a built-in media player. They also tend to have a tougher warranty basis for business use, so check the terms of the model you choose.

Do I need a high-brightness display for a shop window?

Yes, a display facing a window usually needs a high-brightness model. Daylight washes out the picture on a standard indoor panel, making text hard to read. For screens that sit well inside a shop, standard brightness is normally enough.

Do I need a separate media player?

Not always. Many signage displays have a media player built in, which is enough for scheduled images and video. A separate player or small PC is worth adding if you need complex layouts, live data feeds or a content system the display does not support.

Can I mount a signage display in portrait orientation?

Many can, but not every model is designed for it. Check that the manufacturer lists portrait mounting as supported, as this affects cooling and the warranty. Portrait suits tall menu boards, directory screens and narrow wall spaces.
