Ergonomic and vertical mice

Ergonomic and vertical mice

Ergonomic and vertical mice for people who spend long hours at a computer and want a more natural hand position. Our range of over 200 models includes upright vertical mice, shaped ergonomic mice and trackballs, from brands such as Perixx, Logitech, Kensington and Evoluent.

How to choose an ergonomic or vertical mouse

Handedness. Ergonomic shapes are usually moulded for one hand, so check this first. Our range includes right-hand, left-hand and ambidextrous models, with right-hand the most common. Left-handed users should look closely at the form factor, because a right-hand mouse cannot simply be flipped.

Mouse type. A vertical mouse holds your hand in a handshake position, which reduces the twisting of the forearm that a flat mouse causes. A shaped ergonomic mouse keeps a more familiar angle, and a trackball lets you move the cursor with your thumb or fingers while your arm stays still. Most mice in our range use optical tracking, with a few trackball models among them.

Connection and power. Wired USB Type-A models need no charging and suit a fixed desk. Wireless models connect by RF dongle, Bluetooth or both, and the dual option helps if you switch between a desktop and a laptop. Battery-powered and cable-powered mice are both available, and a few can run on either.

Size and buttons. Hand size matters more here than on a standard mouse, because a mouse that is too small makes you grip it tightly. Many models have five or six buttons, which gives you back and forward keys plus a spare one for a shortcut. Gamers and office users with repetitive tasks will get more from the extra buttons than someone who only browses.

Intended use. Most models in our range are aimed at office work, with some designed for gaming and a few for medical or home use. Office models focus on comfort over long days, while gaming models put more weight on tracking and button layout.

Frequently asked questions

Do vertical mice help with wrist pain?

A vertical mouse can reduce wrist and forearm strain for some people, because it avoids turning the palm face down. It does not suit everyone, and it is not medical treatment. If you already have persistent pain, speak to a doctor or an occupational therapist as well.

How long does it take to get used to a vertical mouse?

Most people need a few days to a couple of weeks to feel at ease with a vertical mouse. Precise tasks such as photo editing feel awkward at first. Using it for short periods at the start makes the change easier.

Are there left-handed ergonomic mice?

Yes, some models are made for the left hand, and ambidextrous designs work for either hand. Right-hand models are more common, so check the form factor before you order. A left-handed shape follows the curve of the left palm and thumb.

Should I choose a wireless or wired ergonomic mouse?

Choose wired if you want no batteries and a connection that is always ready, and wireless if you want a tidier desk or use a laptop. Wireless models in our range connect by RF dongle, Bluetooth or both. Battery-powered mice need occasional replacement or charging, so allow for that.
