Routers

Routers

Routers in our range include home Wi-Fi routers, mesh systems, 4G/5G routers and modems, access points and business gateways. They suit households, small offices and sites that need a mobile or managed connection. Leading brands include TP-Link, Teltonika, MikroTik and Ubiquiti, alongside Cisco, ASUS and FRITZ!.

How to choose a router

Connection type. Start with how your internet arrives. A fibre line with an Ethernet handover works with most routers, while DSL and some cable lines need a modem router. Where there is no fixed line, a 4G/5G router with a SIM slot is the usual answer, and we stock a large section of these.

Wi-Fi bands and coverage. Dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) is the most common type in our range. Tri-band models add a second 5 GHz band or 6 GHz, which helps in busy homes with many devices. Single-band 2.4 GHz models only suit basic use. For large or multi-storey buildings, a mesh system or additional access points cover more ground than one router, especially when linked by cable.

Ports and wired speed. The range runs from one to eight Ethernet LAN ports, and four is the most frequent figure. Gigabit Ethernet is standard, 2.5 Gigabit is available for faster internet plans and local transfers, and some models offer 10 Gigabit. Fast Ethernet ports are limited to 100 Mbps, so avoid them if you have a fibre plan above that speed.

Antennas and power. External antennas can often be repositioned or replaced with higher-gain versions, which matters for cellular signal. Internal antennas give a tidier look. Most routers use a DC or AC adapter, but some run on PoE, USB or battery, which suits access points on ceilings and portable routers for travel.

Management features. Business and remote-site users should check for VPN support, VLANs, failover between connections and remote management. Home users usually need parental controls, guest networks and a simple app.

Router brands we carry

  • TP-Link: known for home and small business routers, including the Archer range and Deco mesh systems.
  • Teltonika: a Lithuanian maker of industrial and cellular routers, managed through its RMS remote platform.
  • MikroTik: uses its RouterOS software, which gives detailed control over routing and firewalls at a modest hardware cost.
  • Ubiquiti: builds the UniFi range of access points and gateways, managed from one central controller.
  • Cisco: a long-standing supplier of enterprise and branch-office networking equipment.
  • ASUS: known for gaming routers and AiMesh, which lets compatible ASUS routers join one mesh network.
  • FRITZ!: German brand whose FRITZ!Box models combine a router with modem and telephony functions.
  • Cradlepoint: focuses on enterprise cellular routers for wireless WAN and failover.
  • Huawei: widely used for 4G/5G routers and mobile Wi-Fi devices.
  • Zyxel: offers business networking with its cloud-managed Nebula platform.

Also in our range: Cudy and D-Link. Subcategories cover 4G/5G routers and modems, access points, business routers and gateways, mesh Wi-Fi systems, antennas and accessories, Wi-Fi range extenders, and a few powerline, PoE and switch products.

Router FAQ

What is the difference between a router and an access point?

A router connects your network to the internet and assigns addresses to devices, while an access point only adds Wi-Fi to an existing wired network. Many routers include an access point. A separate access point is useful for extending coverage to another room or floor over an Ethernet cable.

Do I need a mesh Wi-Fi system?

A mesh system is worth considering if one router leaves weak spots in a large or multi-storey home. The units share one network name and hand devices over as you move. In a small flat, a single dual-band router is normally enough.

Can a 4G/5G router replace fixed broadband?

Yes, where mobile coverage is strong and the data plan allows it. A 4G/5G router takes a SIM card and shares the connection over Wi-Fi and Ethernet. Speeds depend on signal quality, so models with external antenna connectors are helpful in weaker areas.

Is a dual-band router enough?

For most homes, yes. Dual-band routers handle streaming, video calls and browsing on the 5 GHz band, with 2.4 GHz for longer range. Tri-band models make more sense when many devices connect at once or when you want a dedicated link between mesh units.
