WiFi access points

WiFi access points

WiFi access points for homes, offices and larger sites: indoor and outdoor access points, Wi-Fi range extenders, mesh Wi-Fi systems, wireless bridges and controllers. Our range has over 600 models from TP-Link, Ubiquiti, HPE, MikroTik and Zyxel, so it suits a home with a dead spot as well as a business planning coverage across several floors.

How to choose a WiFi access point

Product type. A range extender repeats an existing signal and is the simplest fix for one weak room. A mesh system uses several units that act as one network, which suits larger homes. Ceiling or wall-mounted indoor access points are the usual choice for offices, while outdoor models and wireless bridges or CPE units cover yards, warehouses and links between buildings.

Wi-Fi standard and speed. Wi-Fi 6 and newer standards cope better with many devices connected at once than Wi-Fi 5. The speed rating on the box is a combined figure for all bands, so look at how many devices will connect and which bands the access point supports rather than the headline number alone.

Power and cabling. Most business access points are powered over Ethernet (PoE), which needs only one cable to the ceiling. Check that your switch supplies PoE, or budget for a PoE injector. Extenders and many home mesh units simply plug into a wall socket.

Management. A single access point can be set up on its own through a web page or app. Once you have several, a controller or cloud management makes it far easier to keep the same network name, passwords and updates across all of them. Our range includes dedicated wireless network controllers for this.

Appearance and mounting. Where colour is listed in our range, most products are white, which blends in on a ceiling or wall. A few are grey or black. Check the mounting kit and whether the unit is designed for ceiling, wall or in-wall installation.

Brands we carry

  • TP-Link: offers everything from affordable home extenders and Deco mesh systems to Omada business access points managed from one controller.

  • HPE: supplies business-grade wireless networking, including the Aruba range, aimed at offices and larger organisations.
  • MikroTik: uses RouterOS, which gives detailed control over configuration, and is popular for wireless links and outdoor installations.
  • Zyxel: offers Nebula cloud management, which lets you monitor and configure access points remotely.
  • LANCOM: a German manufacturer focused on business and public-sector networks.
  • Grandstream: known for voice and video products, and its access points are often installed alongside its phone systems.

Also in our range: Cudy, D-Link and Ruijie.

Subcategories cover Wi-Fi range extenders, indoor access points, mesh Wi-Fi systems, wireless bridges and CPE, outdoor access points and wireless network controllers. A few accessories and in-wall access points are listed too.

WiFi access points: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a router and an access point?

A router connects your network to the internet and hands out addresses to devices. An access point only adds wireless coverage to an existing wired network. If your router already has Wi-Fi, an access point extends that coverage, usually through a network cable.

Is a mesh system better than a range extender?

A mesh system generally gives more consistent coverage across a large home, because its units work together as one network. A range extender costs less and works well for a single weak spot. Extenders that connect wirelessly to the router can lose some speed, so a cable link to the extender helps where possible.

Do I need PoE for an access point?

Not always, but most business access points are designed for it. PoE sends power and data through the same network cable, so no power socket is needed near the ceiling. If your switch does not support PoE, a separate PoE injector does the job.

How many access points do I need?

One indoor access point usually covers a few rooms, while larger or multi-storey buildings need several. Walls, floors and the number of connected devices all affect the answer. For three or more units, choose a model with controller or cloud management so settings stay consistent.
