microSD cards

microSD cards

This category contains microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC memory cards for phones, action cameras, drones, dashcams, tablets and handheld consoles. Capacities in our range run from 32 GB to 1 TB. Leading brands include SanDisk, Lexar, Kingston and Samsung, alongside makers focused on industrial and everyday storage.

How to choose a microSD card

Card type and device support. microSDHC cards cover up to 32 GB, while microSDXC cards start above that and go well beyond. Check that your device supports microSDXC before buying 64 GB or more, because older cameras and some phones read only SDHC. Most of the cards in our range are microSDXC.

Capacity. Our range includes 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB cards, with 64 GB to 256 GB the most common sizes. A phone used for photos and music rarely needs more than 128 GB. Drones, action cameras and 4K video recording use space far faster, so 256 GB or 512 GB gives more room before you have to offload footage.

Speed. Read speeds in our range go from about 85 MB/s to 200 MB/s, and write speeds from 10 MB/s to 160 MB/s. Write speed matters most for video and burst photos, so look at the write figure and at the U3, V30 or A1 and A2 markings on the card. Read speed mainly affects how quickly you copy files to a computer. Most cards use the UHS-I interface, and UHS-II cards are rare and only help in devices that support them.

Endurance and temperature. Dashcams, security cameras and other devices that record continuously wear a card faster than a phone does. Many cards in our range are rated for operation from -25 to 85 °C, and a few go down to -40 °C. Choose one of these, ideally a model sold as high endurance, if the card will sit in a car or outdoors.

microSD card FAQ

What size microSD card do I need?

For a phone or tablet, 64 GB to 128 GB is enough for most people. For 4K video, drones or a game console library, 256 GB or more is more practical. Always check the maximum card size your device supports first.

What is the difference between microSDHC and microSDXC?

microSDHC cards hold up to 32 GB, and microSDXC cards hold more than 32 GB. They also use different file systems, so a device that supports only SDHC cannot read an SDXC card. Many modern phones and cameras support both.

Which microSD card is best for a dashcam?

A high endurance card with a wide operating temperature range is the safest choice for a dashcam. Constant overwriting and heat inside a car wear out standard cards more quickly. In our range, many cards are rated for -25 to 85 °C, which suits this use.

Does write speed or read speed matter more?

Write speed matters more when you record video or shoot bursts of photos, because the card must save data as fast as the camera produces it. Read speed matters when you transfer files to a computer. Check both figures, as they can differ a lot on the same card.
