Simulator equipment

Simulator equipment covers sim racing wheel bases, steering wheels, pedals, cockpits and seats, plus flight sim controllers, for people building a home driving or flying setup. Our range has over 390 products from brands such as SIMAGIC, MOZA RACING, ASETEK SIMSPORTS and SIMUCUBE.

How to choose simulator equipment

Platform compatibility. Check that the wheel base or wheel works with your PC, PlayStation or Xbox before anything else. Many high-end direct drive products are made for PC only, while entry-level wheels often support consoles as well.

Wheel base type and torque. Direct drive bases connect the wheel straight to the motor and give more detailed, faster force feedback than belt or gear-driven wheels. Higher torque gives stronger forces, but a very powerful base needs a rigid mount, so match the torque to your cockpit and to how you drive.

Pedals. Load cell pedals measure braking pressure rather than pedal travel, which makes it easier to brake consistently lap after lap. If you only buy one upgrade after the wheel, pedals with a load cell brake are often the most noticeable one.

Cockpit and seat. A wheel base with strong force feedback will flex a flimsy desk or a lightweight stand. Look for a rigid frame with adjustable seat and pedal positions, and check that the dimensions suit your height and the space you have. Aluminium profile rigs are easy to extend later, while steel cockpits and seat-and-stand combinations are simpler to set up.

Flight controls. For flight simulators, choose a joystick with a separate throttle (often called HOTAS), and check the number of buttons, the build of the gimbal and whether the parts can be mixed and matched. Racing wheels are not suitable for flight sims, so the two setups need different equipment.

Frequently asked questions about simulator equipment

What is a direct drive wheel base?

A direct drive wheel base has the steering wheel mounted straight on the shaft of an electric motor, with no belts or gears in between. This gives more precise and responsive force feedback, so you feel grip loss and kerbs more clearly. These bases usually need a sturdy cockpit or a firm mount.

Do I need a cockpit for sim racing?

You do not need one to start, but a cockpit makes a big difference once you use a stronger wheel base or load cell pedals. A desk clamp can work with an entry-level wheel. A rigid cockpit keeps the wheel and pedals in a fixed position, which improves comfort and consistency.

Will a sim racing wheel work on PlayStation or Xbox?

Only if the manufacturer lists your console as supported. Some wheels are made for PlayStation, Xbox and PC, while many direct drive products are designed for PC only. Check the compatibility on the product page, including the console generation.

What should I buy first for a sim racing setup?

Start with a wheel base, wheel and pedals that suit your platform, then add a stable mounting solution. If your budget is limited, spend on the wheel base and pedals first and upgrade to a full cockpit later. Choose a brand with a range of compatible parts, so you can upgrade step by step instead of replacing everything.
