Device batteries

Device batteries in our range include replacement battery packs for laptops, handheld scanners and other portable equipment, plus everyday alkaline and rechargeable cells. The category suits home users, offices and businesses that depend on barcode scanners or mobile computers. Brands include CoreParts, Varta, Duracell, 2-Power and Zebra.

How to choose a device battery

Compatibility. Match the battery to the exact model or part number of your device, not just the brand. The label on the old battery or inside the battery bay usually shows the code. A pack that looks similar but has a different connector or cell layout will not work safely.

Battery type. Single-use alkaline cells suit remote controls, clocks and torches that draw little power. Rechargeable NiMH cells make sense for cameras, toys and gadgets that drain batteries quickly. Laptops, scanners and phones normally use sealed lithium-ion or lithium-polymer packs that cannot be swapped for ordinary cells.

Voltage and capacity. Voltage must match what the device expects, so treat it as a fixed requirement. Capacity (mAh or Wh) is where you have a choice: a higher figure gives longer runtime between charges, provided the physical size and voltage are the same.

Original or compatible. Manufacturer-branded packs, such as those for Zebra or Honeywell equipment, are made to the device maker's specification. Compatible replacements from specialist brands are usually cheaper and are a sensible option for older devices that are no longer supported. In both cases, check that the listing names your model.

Pack size and shelf life. Multipacks of AA, AAA or button cells cut the cost per cell if you use them regularly. Buy only what you will use within a few years, as all batteries slowly lose charge in storage.

Device batteries: frequently asked questions

How do I find the right replacement battery for my laptop?

Start with the model number on the underside of the laptop or the part number printed on the old battery. Search for that code and confirm that the listing names your exact model. Voltage and connector layout must match, so a battery that is only similar in size is not a safe substitute.

Are rechargeable batteries better than alkaline ones?

It depends on the device. Rechargeable NiMH cells are cheaper over time in gadgets that use a lot of power, such as cameras and game controllers. Alkaline cells hold their charge longer on the shelf, so they work better in smoke alarms, clocks and remote controls.

Can I use a compatible battery instead of the original?

Yes, provided it is made for your device model and meets the same voltage and size requirements. Compatible batteries from specialist brands are widely used, especially for older laptops and scanners. Choose one from a known maker rather than an unbranded pack.

How long do device batteries last?

Lithium-ion laptop and scanner batteries typically lose noticeable capacity after a few hundred charge cycles, which often means two to four years of regular use. Alkaline cells can sit unused in storage for several years. Heat shortens the life of almost every battery type, so avoid leaving them in hot places.
