Grass trimmers and brush cutters

Grass trimmers and brush cutters

Grass trimmers and brush cutters for tidying lawn edges, clearing long grass and cutting back light undergrowth. Our range covers string trimmers, 2-in-1 brush cutter and string trimmer models and dedicated brush cutters, with products from Bosch, Makita, Gardena and Kärcher, in both battery and mains-powered versions.

How to choose a grass trimmer or brush cutter

Tool type. A string trimmer suits lawn edges, fence lines and soft grass, and it is the most common type in our range. A brush cutter uses a blade and is meant for thicker weeds and woody growth. The 2-in-1 models let you switch between nylon line and a blade, which helps if your garden has both.

Power source. Battery models give you freedom to move without a cable and are the largest group in our range. Mains-powered trimmers need an extension lead, but they run for as long as you like and do not need charging. For a small or medium garden near a socket, mains is often enough. For a large plot, battery is easier to live with.

Cutting diameter. This is the width of the cut in one pass. Models in our range with this detail listed mostly fall between 23 and 30 cm, and 26 cm appears most often. A wider cut clears open grass faster, while a narrower one is easier to control around flower beds and shrubs.

Battery system and handling. If you already own cordless garden or power tools, check whether the trimmer uses the same battery platform, because one battery and charger can then serve several tools. Also look at weight, handle adjustment and shaft length, since you will be carrying the machine for the whole job.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a grass trimmer and a brush cutter?

A grass trimmer cuts with a spinning nylon line, so it suits lawn edges and soft grass. A brush cutter uses a metal blade and handles tougher growth such as thick weeds and light scrub. Some 2-in-1 models can do both by changing the cutting head.

Is a battery or mains grass trimmer better?

It depends on the size of your garden. A battery trimmer moves freely and is better for larger or awkward areas, but its working time is limited by the battery. A mains trimmer runs without interruption but is restricted by the length of the cable.

What cutting diameter do I need?

For most home gardens, a cutting diameter of around 23 to 30 cm is enough, and many trimmers sit near 26 cm. Choose the wider end for open lawns and the narrower end for tight spaces and borders. A larger diameter covers more ground per pass but is harder to steer.

Can I use the same battery for other tools?

Yes, if the tools come from the same brand and battery platform. Makita, Einhell and Ryobi, for example, each use a battery system shared across many of their tools. Always check the voltage and platform before buying, as batteries from different systems are not interchangeable.
