Lawn mowers

Lawn mowers

Lawn mowers in our range are mostly battery-powered and mains-powered walk-behind and push models for home lawns, from brands such as Bosch, Makita, Gardena and DeWalt. Over 50 models are listed, including rotary blade mowers and at least one cylinder mower. They suit owners of small and medium gardens.

How to choose a lawn mower

Power source. Battery mowers need no cable and are easy to move around trees and flower beds, but runtime depends on battery capacity and lawn size. Mains (AC) mowers run for as long as you like, provided the cable reaches every corner. Both types are in our range, with battery models more common.

Cutting width. A wider deck covers more grass per pass, while a narrower one turns more easily in tight spaces. Widths in our range include 32 cm, 34 cm, 40 cm and 46 cm. For a small lawn with borders and obstacles, 32 to 34 cm is usually enough. Larger open lawns are quicker to mow with 40 cm or more.

Grass collecting volume. A bigger box means fewer trips to the compost heap. Collectors here range from about 31 L to 60 L. If you mow often and keep the grass short, a smaller box is rarely a problem. If you cut less frequently, choose a larger one.

Cutting height. Adjustable height lets you leave the grass longer in dry weather and cut closer in spring. Some models in our range list a lowest setting of 2 or 3 cm and a highest of 6 or 7 cm. Check that the range includes the height you actually want for your lawn.

Cutting system. Rotary blades are the most common and cope with ordinary garden grass, including slightly longer growth. Cylinder blades work like scissors and give a finer finish on short, even lawns, but they suit less rough ground.

Lawn mower brands we carry

  • Bosch: known for its green range of DIY garden tools, including the Rotak line of lawn mowers, and it is the largest brand in this category in our range.
  • Makita: built around its 18 V battery platform, so one battery can also power drills, saws and other cordless tools from the same maker.
  • Gardena: a garden specialist, best known for watering systems and hand tools, with mowers designed to fit the same garden-care system.
  • DeWalt: a professional power tool brand with its own cordless battery systems, which makes its mowers attractive to users who already own DeWalt tools.
  • Einhell: known for the Power X-Change battery system, where one battery type fits a wide group of tools.
  • Wolf-Garten: a German garden brand known for its Multi-Star system of interchangeable tool heads and handles.

Also in our range: Black+Decker, Metabo, Blaupunkt and Batavia.

Lawn mower FAQ

Is a battery or mains lawn mower better?

A battery mower is better if you want freedom of movement and have a lawn of small to medium size. A mains mower suits gardens where a socket is close and you do not want to think about charging. Cable length and runtime per charge are the points to check before buying.

What cutting width do I need for a small garden?

For a small garden, a cutting width of about 32 to 34 cm is usually sufficient. It is easy to steer around obstacles and to store. Wider decks of 40 cm and above save time on larger, open lawns.

How big should the grass box be?

A grass box of around 30 to 40 L is enough for most small lawns that are mown regularly. Larger boxes of 50 to 60 L mean fewer stops on bigger lawns or when the grass has grown long. A larger box also makes the mower heavier to carry when full.

What is the difference between rotary and cylinder mowers?

A rotary mower cuts with a spinning blade, while a cylinder mower uses a rotating reel that shears the grass against a fixed blade. Rotary models are the more common choice and handle everyday garden lawns well. Cylinder mowers give a neater finish on short, even grass.
