Pressure washers

Pressure washers

Our pressure washers category covers over 90 electric and cordless machines for cleaning cars, patios, decking, fences, garden furniture and walls. Most are household models, with sturdier units for frequent or larger jobs. Kärcher makes up the bulk of the range, alongside Bosch, Makita, Nilfisk and Ryobi.

How to choose a pressure washer

Pressure and flow rate. Pressure, measured in bar, loosens dirt, while flow, measured in litres per hour, rinses it away. Light models for cars and garden furniture work at lower pressure, while stubborn algae on paving or concrete calls for a stronger machine. Check both figures rather than the bar rating alone.

Power source. Mains electric models suit most households and run for as long as you have a socket and a tap nearby. Cordless models run on a battery, so they work where there is no socket, but run time is limited and some need a tap or a water container. Check whether the battery and charger are included, as many cordless tools are sold as the bare machine.

Accessories and cleaning tasks. A basic lance and nozzle handle general rinsing. For flat surfaces such as patios and terraces, a rotary surface cleaner is much faster than a lance. For cars, look for a foam lance or a detergent tank. Hose length matters too: a short hose means constantly moving the machine.

Build and storage. A metal pump head and an induction motor generally suit regular use better than lightweight plastic parts. A hose reel, onboard accessory storage and a sturdy carrying handle make the machine easier to put away. These details matter most if you plan to wash weekly rather than twice a year.

Pressure washer FAQ

What pressure washer do I need for cleaning a car?

A light household model with moderate pressure is enough for a car. Pair it with a foam lance or a detergent tank for the best results. Very high pressure is unnecessary and can damage paint and seals.

How many bar do I need for a patio?

Patios and paving generally need more pressure than car washing, and a higher flow rate helps clear dirt and algae. A rotary surface cleaner attachment also speeds up the job and gives a more even finish than a bare lance.

Can a pressure washer damage surfaces?

Yes, if the pressure is too high or the nozzle is held too close. Soft wood, painted surfaces, old render and loose grout are the most vulnerable. Start with a wide spray angle at a distance and move closer only if needed.

Are cordless pressure washers as good as mains models?

Cordless models are convenient and useful for small jobs, such as bikes, garden furniture and cars. Mains-powered machines usually provide steadier performance for longer sessions. Choose cordless for convenience, and mains for large or frequent cleaning.
