How to choose an RC model
Vehicle type. Decide where you will use it before anything else. Cars and trucks need open ground or a track, boats need calm water, and aircraft and drones need plenty of clear space and some practice. Cars are generally the easiest to start with.
Ready-to-run or kit. A ready-to-run model arrives assembled, usually with a transmitter, and can be used once the batteries are charged. A kit suits people who enjoy building, but you may need to buy the radio system, motor and battery separately. Check the product description for what is included.
Scale and size. Scale tells you how large the model is compared with the real vehicle. Smaller scales such as 1:24 or 1:18 work in a garden or even indoors, while 1:10 and larger models cope better with rough ground and grass. Larger models are easier to see at a distance but need more storage and transport space.
Power and batteries. Most RC models in this category are electric. Check the battery type, the charging time and whether the battery and charger are included, because run times are often much shorter than charging times. If you plan to run the model often, buy a spare battery.

Toy-grade models are inexpensive, ready to use and mostly built as complete units, so they are hard to repair or upgrade. Hobby-grade models use replaceable parts, offer better control and can be tuned or improved over time. If you want a model that lasts several seasons, hobby-grade is the better route.
Which RC model is best for a beginner?
