Lighting in our range covers light bulbs, LED strips, ceiling and wall lights, outdoor and solar lights, desk lamps and flashlights, for anyone fitting out a home, workshop or garden. Brands include SYNERGY21, Philips Hue, OSRAM and NITECORE, with over 1,700 products to choose from.
How to choose lighting
Fitting and type. Check the base of the fitting you already have before buying bulbs. Common bases are E27 (large screw), E14 (small screw) and GU10 (spotlight pins). For strips, lamps and fixed lights, decide whether you want mains power, a plug-in adapter or a battery.
Brightness and colour temperature. Brightness is measured in lumens, not watts, so compare lumens when replacing an old bulb. Warm white (around 2700 K) suits lounges and bedrooms, while neutral or cool white (4000 K and above) is easier on the eyes in kitchens, garages and at a desk.
Smart control. Smart bulbs, strips and panels can be dimmed, scheduled and changed in colour from an app or by voice. Check the connection type first: some use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth directly, while others need a separate bridge. Also confirm that the product works with the voice assistant you already use.
Location and power source. Outdoor lights need a suitable IP rating for dust and water, and solar models need a spot that gets direct sun for much of the day. For torches and headlamps, rechargeable models save on batteries, while a replaceable-battery model is easier to keep going on long trips.

Lighting FAQ
Do smart bulbs need a hub?
Not always. Some smart bulbs connect straight to your Wi-Fi or to your phone over Bluetooth, while others use Zigbee and need a bridge or compatible hub. A bridge usually allows more bulbs and more reliable control across the house. Check the product specification for the connection type before buying.
What is the difference between warm white and cool white?
Warm white gives a yellowish, cosy light at around 2700 K, while cool white is bluer and crisper at 4000 K or higher. Warm tones suit living rooms and bedrooms. Cooler tones suit kitchens, workshops and desks where you need to see detail.
How many lumens do I need?
It depends on the room and the task. A bedside or mood lamp needs far fewer lumens than a kitchen, garage or work area. As a rule, replace an old bulb with an LED that gives similar lumens, and choose a dimmable model if you want to adjust the level.
What IP rating should outdoor lighting have?
For lights that sit fully exposed to rain, look for at least IP44, and a higher rating such as IP65 for places that get direct spray or heavy rain. The first digit covers dust and the second covers water. Solar lights also need a position with direct daylight to charge properly.
