Backpacks and bags

This category covers backpacks and bags for carrying a laptop, tablet and everyday accessories, and it suits students, commuters and office workers. The range is small at the moment and features a Lenovo model, which makes it a quick option for anyone who prefers a bag from the same maker as their laptop.

How to choose a backpack or bag

Laptop size. Check the screen size the main compartment is made for, such as 14, 15.6 or 16 inches. A laptop that is too loose slides around, and one that is too tight strains the zip. Compare the width and depth of your laptop with the bag, not only the screen diagonal.

Padding and protection. A padded laptop sleeve absorbs knocks, and a raised base keeps the bag's contents off wet or dirty floors. A separate compartment also stops keys and chargers from scratching the lid.

Carrying comfort. Wide, padded shoulder straps and a cushioned back panel spread the weight far better than a single strap. A chest or waist strap helps on longer walks. If you carry a laptop every day, comfort matters more than extra pockets.

Storage and organisation. List what you actually carry: charger, mouse, notebook, water bottle, perhaps a lunch box. Dedicated pockets for the power adapter and cables keep the main compartment tidy and make items quicker to find.

Weather resistance and security. Water-resistant fabric and covered zips protect electronics in light rain. A pocket against the back panel is a sensible place for a passport or wallet on crowded public transport.

Brands we carry

  • Lenovo: best known for its ThinkPad and IdeaPad laptops, and it also makes carry cases and backpacks sized for its own laptop ranges.

Lenovo is the only brand in this category in our range at present, and there are no further subcategories to browse.

Backpack and laptop bag FAQ

What size backpack do I need for a 15.6-inch laptop?

Choose a backpack that lists support for 15.6-inch laptops or larger. Most bags give the maximum screen size they accept, and a few millimetres of spare room on each side makes the laptop easier to slide in and out. Thick gaming laptops may need extra depth, so check the compartment dimensions as well.

Is a backpack or a shoulder bag better for carrying a laptop?

A backpack is generally better for daily carrying because the weight sits on both shoulders and your back. A shoulder bag is quicker to open and looks more formal, which suits short trips and light loads. If you carry a laptop plus a charger and other items for long distances, a backpack is usually less tiring.

Do I need a waterproof laptop backpack?

Water-resistant is enough for most people, since it copes with light rain on the way to work or school. Fully waterproof bags are only necessary if you cycle or are often out in heavy rain. In either case, covered zips and a padded inner compartment add useful protection.

Can I use a laptop backpack as cabin luggage?

Many laptop backpacks are small enough to go under an aeroplane seat, but airline size limits differ. Check the bag's dimensions against your airline's allowance before you fly. Keeping the laptop in the outer-most compartment makes it easier to take out at security.
