Dust filters for PC cases: magnetic and mesh filters that cover fan mounts, radiator positions and vents so dust stays out of the components. They suit anyone building or maintaining a desktop PC, particularly in dusty rooms or homes with pets. Brands in our range include DEMCIFLEX, LIAN LI, SILVERSTONE and AKASA.
How to choose a dust filter
Case and fan positions. Check where your case draws air in: front, bottom, side or top. A filter is only useful if it covers those openings, so list every intake position before you order.
Size and shape. Fan filters are made for specific fan sizes, most commonly 120 mm and 140 mm, and some are cut to cover several fans or a radiator in one piece. Measure the opening, including any mounting holes or cut-outs, and compare it with the filter dimensions. A filter that is too small leaves gaps where dust gets through.
How it attaches. Magnetic filters hold onto steel surfaces and lift off for cleaning without tools. Frame or clip designs suit panels that are not magnetic, such as aluminium. Look at the material of the surface you are covering before choosing.
Mesh density and airflow. A finer mesh catches more dust but restricts airflow slightly more, which can matter on quiet, low-speed fans. A coarser mesh moves air more easily and still stops lint, hair and larger particles. Pick the mesh according to how dusty the room is and how hard your fans work.
Ease of cleaning. A filter that comes off in seconds gets cleaned more often. Washable filters that can be wiped, brushed or rinsed will keep working for as long as the PC does.
Brands we carry
- DEMCIFLEX: known for magnetic dust filters made to fit specific cases, fans and radiators, and by far the largest group in our range.
- LIAN LI: a maker of aluminium PC cases, with filters designed to suit its own case models.
- SILVERSTONE: a case and power supply manufacturer whose filters are made for its own chassis designs.
- AKASA: a cooling specialist best known for fans and heatsinks, with filters that suit fan-based airflow setups.
Dust filter FAQ
Do dust filters affect PC cooling?
A clean filter has only a small effect on cooling, and keeping dust off heatsinks and fan blades usually helps temperatures over time. A clogged filter, however, restricts airflow and can raise temperatures. Regular cleaning avoids the problem.
How often should I clean a PC dust filter?
Most PCs need their filters cleaned every one to three months. In rooms with pets, carpets or building work, check them more often. A quick look at the mesh will tell you: if you can see a layer of dust or lint, it is time to clean.
Which fan positions need a dust filter?
Every intake position needs one, because that is where dust enters the case. Exhaust fans usually do not need a filter, as air is leaving the case there. Many builders also cover bottom power supply vents, which draw air from floor level.
Will a magnetic dust filter stick to any case?
No, a magnetic filter only holds on steel or other magnetic surfaces. Aluminium, plastic and glass panels will not attract it, so those cases need a filter with a frame or clips. Check the material around your fan mounts before buying.
