CD players in our range include portable models, CD radios with built-in speakers and compact stereo units for playing audio discs at home. They suit anyone with a disc collection who wants better sound than a phone speaker gives. Leading brands include MUSE, BLAUPUNKT, JVC, AIWA and DENVER.
How to choose a CD player
Type and place of use. Portable players run on batteries and work for travel or a bedside table. Boombox-style units add speakers and usually a radio, while tabletop and micro system players are made to stay in one room.
Disc and file support. Every CD player handles standard audio CDs, but not all read burnt CD-R and CD-RW discs reliably or play MP3 files from a data disc. If you have home-made discs or MP3 collections, check the product listing before buying.
Connections. USB playback, an AUX input and a headphone socket are common on all-in-one units. Bluetooth lets a player receive music from a phone or, on some models, send sound to a wireless speaker. If you want to connect the player to a hi-fi amplifier, look for RCA line outputs or a digital output.
Radio and extras. Many CD players double as FM radios, and some add DAB+, a cassette deck or a remote control. Check which radio bands are included, as this differs from model to model.
Power and sound. Battery operation gives freedom to move around, but a mains adapter is better for daily use at home. On all-in-one units, speaker size and output power decide how well the sound fills a room. If you buy a player without speakers, the amplifier and speakers you connect it to matter more.

CD player FAQ
Can a CD player play burnt CD-R discs?
Most modern CD players can play CD-R discs, and many also read CD-RW. Older or very basic models can be fussy with home-burnt discs. Finalised discs burnt at a slower speed generally play more reliably.
Does a CD player play MP3 files?
Some do, but not all. Models that list MP3 support can play files from a data CD, and many also read MP3 files from a USB stick. A player without this support only plays standard audio CDs.
Can I connect a CD player to a Bluetooth speaker or amplifier?
Yes, if the player has the right output. Models with Bluetooth transmission can pair with a wireless speaker, while players with RCA or digital outputs connect to an amplifier by cable. A headphone or AUX output can also work with a suitable lead.
Is a CD player worth buying when I can stream music?
It is, if you own discs or prefer playing a full album without a subscription or internet connection. CDs deliver consistent, uncompressed audio quality, and a player lets you enjoy a collection you already have. Many models also include radio, USB and Bluetooth, so they handle other sources too.
